What is the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird?
The Turkey Trot Mystery Make Along with Marly Bird 2020 was a FREE and super fun online event held over the US Thanksgiving weekend for BOTH knitters and crocheters.
A make-along is when a group of knitters and crocheters get together to work on the same project at the same time. The Turkey Trot has one knit pattern and one crochet pattern โ both are the same Ruana, just worked differently. Make one or both!

About the 2020 Turkey Trot
The Turkey Trot 2020 ran over Thanksgiving weekend in November 2020, with one pattern clue released each day over six days. All clues are now available โ you can work the complete Ruana pattern at your own pace with no waiting!
How the Pattern Works
The Turkey Trot Ruana was released in six parts, each one building on the last โ think of them like courses at a Thanksgiving feast! All six parts are now available. Work through them in order at your own pace, and scroll down to the Get the Pattern section for all the links.
What Are We Making
We made a Ruana โ a cozy, oversized open-front wrap that works beautifully for both knitters and crocheters! It comes in two sizes and is designed to be comfortably oversized.
The pattern is available in two sizes: SโXL and 2XLโ5XL. Sizing tip: If you’d normally wear “one size fits most” from Target, choose the smaller size. If you always wish that “one size fits most” was a bit bigger, go with the larger size.
Video tutorials for each section are linked in the individual clue posts and available on the Marly Bird YouTube Channel.

Materials Needed for the Turkey Trot Mystery Make Along 2020
This pattern was designed with worsted weight yarn so you can dig into your stash or easily find it at any craft store.
Below the materials list, you will see a list of yarns that I think would work well with this Turkey Trot 2020 pattern. I overestimated the yarn amounts so you do not run out of yarn…better to have too much than not enough! Also, I wrote the pattern to be in one color.

- Hook: Size I (5.5 mm) Crochet Hook–Or any size to obtain gauge with the yarn you are using

- Size S-XL: 1500 yds

Marly, just a quick question on the worsted yarn, what number would that correspond to on the yarn ball band? Would it be #4, or should you not go by that? Thanks in advance. Beate
I donโt know if she will answer but yes #4 on the ball band indicates worsted weight.
Thank you Melissa! I just saw this.
