Crochet Tote Construction:
Crochet and bags don’t always mix. The reason that you can have trouble with crochet bags is that the construction isn’t right. When making a crochet (or knit) tote you really need to think about what you are going to be putting inside of it.
The more weight you put inside the bag the more reinforcement you will need. Consider lining your tote or the strap to make it stronger. Another great way to make your strap more durable is to add a ribbon to the back side. Using the ribbon is a great way to keep the strap from stretching. This is a tip that can also be used for button hole and shoulder seams.
Before starting a tote project also consider the stitch pattern that is being used. The tighter the stitch the stronger the tote will be. Also consider how the strap is attached to the bag. This will tell you how well the bag will hold up as well.
