JOANN Stitchalong Bernat Knit Blanket Clue 4

We are over half way there in the 2019 Bernat Blanket Stitchalong! This week we are learning a new section of the blanket and we only have two more weeks after this! Working through each week with you is so much fun. Thanks for sharing your progress with me in the Marly’s Minons group and the KAL Facebook group. Learn along with me as we work the next section of our blanket which includes cables.

About the 2019 Bernat Stitchalong:

For our stitch along we will be making a beautiful Knit Festive Textures Afghan. Since this is a stitch along there will be both a knit and crochet version available for you. Both the knit and crochet versions are very similar and you will enjoy either pattern that you decide to go with. I will be teaching and hosting the knit blanket only.

This blanket is knit with Bernat Blanket yarn in very modern colors. But you can choose any color combination you wish to make yours match your home.

This is a 6 week knit-along hosted by Marly Bird. The crochet-along is hosted by Mikey at The Crochet Crowd.

Looking for all of the nitty gritty details of the stitch along? Check out the announcement post that I did two weeks ago for all of the details, dates, materials and more! Don’t forget to check out the GIVEAWAY details too!

Do I need to do a gauge swatch:

Typically a gauge swatch isn’t as important when working a blanket pattern since it doesn’t need to fit a person when it is finished. I still recommend that you complete a swatch before starting so that you know you are using the right needle.

Week 4 of the Yarnspiration and JOANN Bernat Stitchalong

Doing a gauge swatch will let you know that you are going to have enough yarn and that your blanket will come out the same size as the pattern says.

Each week you will find a new gauge measurement. Why is this? Because each section uses a different stitch pattern the gauge slightly changes with each section. Always make sure that your gauge is correct so that you don’t run out of yarn and that your blanket stays the same size throughout.

Week Four Supplies:

For this section of the Bernat Stitchalong you will need color C and D. Along with these two colors you will need a good pair of scissors, tape measure, stitch marker, a cable needle (optional) and the FREE pattern.

Don’t forget to also download the pattern for week four.

4 Things You Will Learn:

  1. Making cables with a cable needle
  2. Making cables without a cable needle
  3. Slip stitches
  4. Trouble shooting issues

Week 4 has us working again with two colors. In this section of the pattern you will be working a 3 stitch cable pattern. As you work this you will see how the stitches look like they are stretched to the next row.

No matter how experienced you are as a knitter we all make mistakes. Sometimes we forget to do something or we do something too many times and we need to be able to fix it before wearing it or gifting it. The second half of this video tutorial is set up to teach you how to fix common mistakes.

Make a Cowl:

You might have noticed that the sample that I am making in the video is smaller than the blanket that you are working on. Rather than make the whole blanket in the video I took a smaller section and made a cowl from the pattern.

If you want to follow along with the smaller sample and make a cowl with me follow along here for my stitch counts.

What I’m Wearing:

Great Falls Knit Poncho by Marly Bird

Did you notice the poncho that I am wearing in the video? You can make one for yourself! This is my Great Falls Poncho. Originally this pattern was released in Love of Knitting but now you can get it in my Ravelry shop.

Designed as large rectangle that you hold together with buttons this project is great for many body types. There is no shaping in the project, the difficulty of this project is in working the cables and lace.

Looking for a crochet version of this poncho? Check out my Mountain Mist Poncho as well.
