The Yarn – What Should You Use?

This project is made with size 6 super bulky yarn. But you could always make additional chains in multiples of 4 to make your headband work with a smaller gauge and yarn. Knowing that, this project is perfect for worsted weight yarn or chunky yarn. You can use acrylic or even merino wool if you want extra warmth.

Free Crochet Headband Pattern – ONE BALL WONDER CROCHET HEADBAND PATTERN

Chain 13.

Row 1 (WS): Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn — 12 hdc.

Row 2: Ch 1, *hdc in backloop of next 2 sts, hdc in third loop of next 2 sts; repeat from * across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, *hdc in third loop of next 2 sts, hdc in backloop of next 2 sts; repeat from * across, turn.

Repeat Rows 2-3 until headband measures 20” [51 cm], fasten off with long tail. 

FINISHING

Fold project lengthwise with RS facing. Sandwich ends together by placing one half of one end inside of the other end. Using tapestry needle and tail, whipstitch ends together working through all 4 fabrics at once. Turn RS out and enjoy!

⭐️ Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS): Insert hook from right to left into front vertical bar of next st, yarn over and pull up a loop.

⭐️Tunisian Knit Stitch (TKS): Insert hook from front to back between the front and back vertical bars of the next st (under horizontal bars), yarn over and pull up a loop. 

⭐️Tunisian Reverse Stitch (TRS): Insert hook from right to left into back vertical bar of next st on the wrong side (or back of work), yarn over and pull up a loop. This pushes the return pass to the front of the work creating a purl-like look. 

⭐️ “Work Loops off as normal” Yarn over and draw through 1 loop on hook, *yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * to end of project.  Note: project is worked in a continuous spiral so there is only 1 first stitch and all the remaining will be pulling through 2 loops.

Row 3: Fwd: *Trs in next 2 sts, tks in next 2 sts; repeat from * once more, trs in next st, tks in last st. Rtn: Work loops off as normal.

Repeat Rows 2-3 until headband measures 20” [51 cm], fasten off with long tail.
