Mosaic Crochet

Mosaic crochet is a great introduction to colorwork. Although it may appear to be an intensive process, really these beautiful designs are worked with using only ONE color per row!

Colorwork can be a scary word for some. Managing the yarn, weaving in the ends, it all seems so daunting. Yes, making projects with colorwork may take a little more time, or a little more concentration, but look at the end results! They are totally worth it!

Diamond Mosaic Crochet Square

The Diamond Mosaic Crochet Square was made as block #15 of the 2019 Moogly CAL (side note, omg…the squares this year are so awesome!) For my square, I wanted to have the crocheter make a block that was simple yet could still stand up to the wonderful squares already designed for the blanket.

When working a mosaic pattern it is important to remember to pick two contrasting colors. If the colors are too close together you won’t be able to see the detail of the pattern as much.

PRO TIP: Think of your colors in black and white. Will you be able to tell that you have two different colors or are they too close together to know. If you won’t know there are two colors when they are black and white, they aren’t the best option for mosaic work.

Make the Square

Jumping head first into a new technique might be a struggle for some. Making a 12″ square makes it easier.

If you are loving this pattern you won’t want to miss the other mosaic crochet patterns that I have.

My friend Nadia, from YARNutopia, had a baby boy that I had to make something for. I designed a very special blanket just for him called the Oliver and Olivia Blanket.

After falling in love with that blanket I created the Modern Mosaic Blocks Throw for a larger size. Check them out!
