Brittany Needles joins us on the Yarn Thing Podcast

Today on the podcast we have Chris Barnes, owner of Brittany needles. These beautiful finely crafted wooden tools are hand finished and exactly sized. All of their hooks and needles are made in the USA from sustainably harvested Birch and Black Walnut. They are not only beautiful to look at but feel warm and smooth in your hands and are a pleasure to work with. Learn about their story with me today on the Yarn Thing Podcast.

About Brittany Needles:

Shop Brittany Needles

Brittany Needles was started 41 years ago by Gene and Galer Barnes in their garage in Northern California. Chris and Michri worked with his parents for 15 years and officially took over the business in 2013. All of the manufacturing is done in house which ensures consistent quality. When you purchase their needles you aren’t just getting a beautiful set, you are getting something that is made by hand in the USA and that comes backed with amazing customer service.

Best of all, Brittany Needles is an environmentally-minded company and tries to minimize their impact at every stage of production. Included in their desire to be environmentally-minded they have worked very hard to develop the “greenest” packaging possible. It is made from 100% recycled paperboard and is 100% recyclable. If the label is removed it is perfectly safe to put in your compost pile. The package is as small and lightweight as possible to be efficient in shipping and thus consume less energy getting to the final customer. They don’t stop their either. The waste that they produce for the entire company is less than some households. Not only can you feel great about the beautiful needles or hooks that you are using but you know that the company is really thinking about their impact on the world.

You won’t find Brittany Needles in any of the big box stores. Not only do they believe in decreasing the footprint that they leave they also feel that it is important to support small business. Local Yarn Shops are able to answer your questions, help you find the right tools and provide a community where you can enrich your love for the craft. If you don’t have a local yarn shop near you, don’t worry, you are able to purchase Brittany Needles online as well.

I’m hoping since the Scarfie needles are shorter, they’ll make them in 2.5 mm, then they’d be perfect for the double knit scarves I make in fingering weight. Maybe send 3 in a package, in case of breakage?! 😉 ❤

I don’t have an LYS in my area that carries the hooks and needles, so I’ll have to find an online source. I never realized how affordable they are. And now the scarfie, what a great idea. I’ve never tried wood needles. But you mentioned that they help with cold hands. I’m thinking I may need to try this. Especially when knitting at fall soccer/football games! So a scarfie needle might be just the right size for sitting in the bleachers and not bumping those around me.

Scarfies would be the best straight but needles to teach kids to knit for their hands are smaller and having shorter needles would not feel so cumbersome. Of course, I would use them myself too. I love the cable needles and DPNs. They were one of my first DPNs I purchased. Great product and I look for them every chance I get.

I picked up some of Brittany’s cable needles the other day, they were my first cable needles and I’ll probably never switch. I didn’t know about the brand when I bought these but now I can’t wait to order my first hook from them (and am really looking forward to those circulars). Scarfies… not sure if those are for me yet…

It’s episodes like this that really highlight the difference between the audio and video podcast. It was so nice to see the products as you talked about them. They scarfie needles looked so nice! Thanks for the podcast.

I don’t know if the contest is still open, but I would love to win some wooden hooks and/or needles. SCARFIES!
It was a really interesting podcast, with discussions from some talented craftspeople. I just wish they spoke a little more about the crochet hooks.

Phew, took me so long to get to then end of all that love that’s being shown in the comments. Lol. This look like some amazing hooks and I love that they source out to independent businesses because I love to support those people. Thanks for the chance and good luck to all the scarffies out there

These are beautiful and it’s amazing that her step mom had polished each one of them. Knowing that so much work goes into these hooks makes you want them more! #Scarffies
