Let’s talk about gift giving for a second…

You know what’s a perfectly acceptable gift for almost any occasion? A bottle of wine. You know what makes a bottle of wine feel like a truly SPECIAL gift? When it’s wearing a handmade cozy. ๐Ÿท๐Ÿงถ

The Pour Decisions Wine Crochet Cozy takes a $15 bottle of wine and turns it into a gift that looks like it cost $50. The lacy stitch pattern lets the bottle peek through just enough to be elegant, the single crochet trim gives it structure, and the leather strap closure? That’s the detail that makes people say “wait… you MADE this?!”

And yes… the name is exactly what you think it is. Because the best pour decisions are the ones that come with handmade accessories. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What You Will Love About This Pattern ๐Ÿ’–

๐Ÿท Instant gift upgrade โ€” wrap any wine bottle in this cozy and suddenly you’re the person who gives the BEST gifts. Hostess gift? Done. Birthday present? Elevated. “I just wanted to say thank you” gift? Perfect.

๐Ÿงถ The leather strap closure is what makes this cozy stand out from every other wine cozy pattern out there. It adds a modern, professional finish that looks like it came from a boutique… not a craft room. (Even though it totally did.)

๐Ÿชก Adventurous beginner friendly โ€” if you can single crochet and double crochet, you can make this. The lacy body is just chains and single crochets in a simple repeat. The leather strap is the only “extra” step and it’s easier than it sounds.

โšก One ball of yarn โ€” this cozy uses just one ball of WeCrochet Brava Tweed. Budget friendly AND stash friendly.

๐ŸŽ Make a set โ€” crochet a Pour Decisions Wine Cozy AND a Yule Fuel Coffee Cozy for the ultimate handmade gift duo. Wine for the evening, coffee for the morning. You’ve covered all their bases. โ˜•๐Ÿท

โœจ The stretch factor โ€” don’t worry if the cozy looks a little small laying flat. The fabric stretches beautifully once the bottle is inside. That’s not a mistake… it’s a feature.

The Perfect Gift for Every Occasion

A wine cozy is one of those gifts that works for literally everyone and every occasion. Here’s how to style it:

๐Ÿ  Hostess gift: Cozy + a nice bottle of wine + engraved custom glasses. You’ll be invited back. Guaranteed.

๐ŸŽ„ Holiday gift exchange: The person who gets this wins the exchange. Period.

๐Ÿ’ Mother’s Day: Pair with a handmade shawl from our Mother’s Day Gift Guide and Mom will cry happy tears.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ Teacher appreciation: Wine + handmade cozy = a teacher who remembers you forever. (Just make sure they drink wine first. ๐Ÿ˜„)

๐ŸŽ‚ Birthday gift: Instantly elevates a “I grabbed you a bottle of wine” into “I made you something special AND got you wine.”

โœจ Designer Tip: Make several in different colors and keep them in your gift closet. When you need a last-minute gift, grab a cozy, slip it over a bottle, and you’re done. Future you will thank present you. ๐Ÿ˜‰

About the Leather Strap

The leather strap is what takes this from “cute crochet project” to “boutique-quality gift.” And I promise it’s easier than it sounds.

You’ll need a 1″ wide leather strap (cut to 11″ long), a leather hole punch, and metal rivets. The strap attaches to the single crochet trim section of the cozy with rivets on each side… creating a handle that’s both decorative and functional.

โœจ Designer Tip: If you don’t have leather tools, you can substitute with faux leather, thick ribbon, or even a crocheted I-cord strap. The pattern works beautifully without the leather too… but the leather really does take it to the next level. ๐Ÿ’›

Yarn & Materials

This cozy uses WeCrochet Brava Tweed in Rosefinch… a gorgeous dusty rose with subtle tweed flecks. The tweed adds texture and visual interest that makes even simple stitches look elevated.

Brava Tweed is 97% acrylic and 3% viscose… machine washable, affordable, and with enough body to hold the cozy’s shape. One ball is more than enough for the project.

๐ŸŒŸ Want a different color? Any worsted weight yarn with good stitch definition will work. Choose a color that coordinates with the wine label for an extra-thoughtful touch… or just pick your favorite. ๐Ÿงถ

  • Body of project is worked in joined rounds.
  • Place marker in first stitch throughout project.

Add Strap

Step 1 โ€” Cut Your Leather Strap: Cut a piece of leather measuring 11″ [28 cm] long โ€” or adjust the length if you want a slightly longer or shorter strap.

Step 2 โ€” Mark Your Hole Placement (First End): From one short end of the strap, measure ยฝ” [1.3 cm] up. Then measure ยฝ” [1.3 cm] in from the long edge and make a mark. From that mark, measure another ยฝ” [1.3 cm] up and make a second mark. You should now have two marks stacked vertically near the end of your strap.

Step 3 โ€” Punch Holes: Grab your leather hole punch and make holes at each marked spot.

Step 4 โ€” Repeat on the Other End: Do the exact same thing on the opposite end of your strap so everything lines up nicely.

Step 5 โ€” Attach the Strap: Place the strap onto the trim of your cozy. Position strap evenly on opposite sides of cozy and add the rivet through the trim portion of the cozy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size wine bottle does this cozy fit?

This cozy fits a standard 750ml wine bottle. The lacy stitch pattern has natural stretch, so it accommodates slight variations in bottle shape. The base is 4ยฝ inches in diameter which matches most standard wine bottles.

Do I need leather tools to make this?

The pattern uses a leather strap, leather hole punch, and metal rivets for the handle. If you don’t have these tools, you can substitute with faux leather, thick ribbon, or even a crocheted I-cord strap. The cozy looks beautiful with or without the leather detail.

My cozy looks too small before I put the bottle in โ€” is that normal?

Yes, completely normal! The fabric has a lot of stretch built into the stitch pattern. What looks too short or narrow laying flat will stretch to fit perfectly once the bottle is inserted. Trust the process and don’t add extra rounds.

Can I use a different yarn?

Any worsted weight yarn will work. Choose a yarn with good stitch definition so the lacy pattern shows clearly. The tweed flecks in Brava Tweed add extra visual interest, but a solid color looks beautiful too.

How long does this take to crochet?

Most crocheters can finish the crochet portion in 3-5 hours. The leather strap adds about 15 minutes of assembly time. This is a great weekend project or a “two evenings and done” kind of pattern.

What is a stacked double crochet?

A stacked double crochet is an alternative to the traditional chain-3 turning chain. Instead of chaining up, you work a single crochet in the first stitch and then build up to double crochet height by inserting your hook between the legs of that stitch. It creates a much neater edge than a chain-3.

Final Thoughts

Some of the best gifts are the simplest ones. A bottle of wine is thoughtful. A bottle of wine in a handmade crochet cozy with a leather strap? That’s unforgettable.

And honestly… making these is just FUN. The lacy body works up fast, the trim section is satisfying, and attaching that leather strap is the cherry on top. Every time I make one I think “okay, just one more in a different color…” and then suddenly I have six. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿท
