Gauge

18 sts = 4” [10 cm] in any of the Slip Stitch patterns.

MATERIALS

Yarn

Caron One Pound (100% acrylic, 812 yds / 742 m, 16 oz/454 g CYCA #4 worsted) 

1 skein: Claret

1 skein: Medium Gray

Needle

Use size US-9 [4.5mm] straight and double-pointed needles, or size required for gauge.

Notions

Stitch markers, tapestry needle, 9 decorative buttons approx ¾” [4 cm] in diameter.

ONE-AT-A-TIME FAIR ISLE COZY

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES

I-Cord

Cast on 3 sts using long-tail cast-on or your favorite cast-on method.

Sl all 3 sts onto left needle, so that working yarn is attached to the last st rather than the first.

Row 1 (RS): K3, sl 3 sts to left needle wyib.

Repeat Row 1 until I-Cord reaches desired length.

Final row: K3tog.

Fasten off.

I-Cord Cast-on

Cast on 3 sts using long-tail cast-on or your favorite cast-on method.

Sl all 3 sts onto left needle, so that working yarn is attached to the last st rather than the first.

Row 1 (RS): Kfb, k2, sl 3 sts to left needle wyib.

Repeat Row 1 until there are 2 more sts on the needle than required for cast-on.

Final row: K3tog.

Fasten off.

I-Cord Bind-off

Cast on 3 sts using the simple cast on method, * k2, k2tog, sl 3 sts onto left needle wyib; repeat from * until 3 sts remain, k3tog. Fasten off.

NOTES

·  Use Claret for color A and Medium Gray for color B for this cozy.

·  All slipped sts in the One-at-a-Time Fair Isle pattern are worked with yarn held to WS.

·  The One-at-a-Time Fair Isle pattern uses a circular needle but is worked straight. The circular needle gives access to both edges of the fabric, and the instructions will sometimes call for sliding the piece to the other end of the circular needle and working again in the same direction, rather than turning the work.

ONE-AT-A-TIME FAIR ISLE COZY PATTERN

With A, cast on 42 sts using I-cord cast-on.

Begin One-at-a-Time Fair Isle slip st pattern chart as follows:

Row 1A (RS): Using color A only, k1, then following color chart from right to left, knit all red sts and slip wyib all white sts of Row 1 to last st on needle, k1.

Slide all sts to other end of circular needle.

Row 1B (RS): Using color B only, sl 1, then following color chart from right to left, knit all white sts and slip wyib all red sts of Row 1 to last st on needle, sl 1.

Turn work.

Row 2A (WS): Using color A only, sl 1, then following color chart from left to right, purl all red sts and slip wyif all white sts of Row 2 to last st on needle, sl 1.

Slide all sts to other end of circular needle.

Row 2B (WS): Using color B only, p1, then following color chart from left to right, purl all white sts and slip wyif all red sts of Row 2 to last st on needle, p1.

Turn work.

Work as established for 2.5 pattern repeats, or 45 total rows.
