What is a Stitch Along:
Let’s start at the very beginning. If you aren’t familiar with the term ‘stitch-along’ let me explain it to you.
Most of you might know about a crochet along or a knit along, we have been doing them for a few years with Red Heart. This is a little different in the fact that we are offering both a knit and crochet version of this project so that we can all work together! Knitter and crocheters alike can join in and participate in this project.
A stitch along is a group of people coming together to knit/crochet the same project in the same timeframe. The best part about this stitch along is that there will be video tutorials for both versions each week!
I will only be teaching the knitting version of the stitch along and will being joining Mikey from the Crochet Crowed as he teaches the crochet version. Be sure to check out his post about the stitch along to see which version you like better!

Frequently Asked Questions
What was the 2019 Bernat Stitch Along at JOANN?
The 2019 Bernat Stitch Along was a community crafting event where participants worked through the same project together using Bernat yarn, with classes and guidance available at JOANN stores. Stitch-alongs bring crafters together around a shared project… everyone following the same pattern at the same time, often with support and community encouragement. The JOANN store partnership made it accessible to crafters who could participate in-person with local crafting communities, while the online component reached crafters everywhere.
Can I still make the 2019 Stitch Along pattern?
Yes! Stitch-along patterns typically remain available after the live event ends. The specific pattern from the 2019 event should be accessible through the links in this post. While the community experience of stitching along in real time happened in 2019, the pattern itself is a resource you can use anytime. If you discover it now, you can work through it at your own pace and connect with others who made it through social media or Ravelry project pages.
What yarn did the 2019 Bernat Stitch Along use?
It used Bernat yarn, which is a Yarnspirations brand available at JOANN stores and through the Yarnspirations website. Bernat offers several yarn lines across different weights and fiber contents. If you want to recreate the original project, check the specific yarn and colorway in the pattern materials. Bernat yarn is affordable, widely available, and machine washable… practical features for a project designed for broad accessibility.
Are Marly Bird’s stitch-alongs typically beginner-friendly?
Marly designs her community events with accessibility in mind! Her make-alongs and stitch-alongs typically include video support, clear instructions, and a welcoming community for participants at various skill levels. She specifically celebrates BiCrafty inclusion… events that have both knit and crochet versions (or at minimum one version that’s accessible to either craft) are a priority. Check the specific event details for skill level recommendations, but Marly’s events tend toward accessible rather than exclusive.
How do I find out about current Marly Bird stitch-alongs and make-alongs?
Subscribe to Marly’s newsletter… new events are announced there first! Follow her on Instagram and Facebook where upcoming events are promoted. Check the marlybird.com blog where event posts appear. Her annual recurring events (Game Day Make-Along, Turkey Trot, Tournament of Stitches, First Fall) happen on predictable schedules… knowing the cadence helps you plan ahead. The Marly’s Minions Facebook group is also a community hub where event information gets discussed and shared by the community.
