About the Knit Polar Bear Amigurumi Pattern:
If you haven’t made a stuffed animal before with knitting or an ornament this is the tutorial for you. In most tutorials I show you how to make the pattern from start to finish. In this case I will only be showing you how to attach the polar bear parts together. The reason for this is that it is an intermediate pattern. To make all of the parts there are simple stitches that you need to know. You will need to know how to knit, purl, knit two together (k2tog-decrease) and knit front and back (kfb-increase).
With this being an intermediate pattern it is assumed that you know how to use double point needles. If you haven’t used those before you can check out my tutorials that were created for the 2018 spring KAL where I taught how to make a beginner pair of socks. Watch those videos to learn tips and tricks for using DPNs.
Through this tutorial I will show you all of my tips and tricks for finishing knit amigurumi animals and what I found to be most successful when making all of the pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know how to knit all the parts for these polar bears?
Honestly… no! This tutorial is all about putting the pieces together. You’ll need to know some basic stitches like knit, purl, decreases (k2tog), and increases (kfb) to make the parts, but the video focuses on assembly.
I’m new to double-pointed needles, can I still do this?
So here’s the thing… this is an intermediate pattern, so knowing how to use double-pointed needles (DPNs) is super helpful. If you’re not familiar with them yet, you can totally check out my tutorials from the 2018 spring KAL where I teach you all about DPNs with a beginner sock pattern!
What yarn do you recommend for these cute ornaments?
Yes! The pattern calls for RED HEART® Soft® yarn, specifically in White (A) and Really Red (B). It’s a great yarn that gives a lovely finish to these amigurumi ornaments.
Besides yarn and needles, what other supplies do I need?
Well… you’ll need a few bits and bobs to bring your polar bears to life! Think stitch markers, a yarn needle for weaving in ends, and small black beads for the eyes. If you’re making the long underwear version, you’ll also need some white buttons and sewing supplies.
Is this a quick project?
This pattern is rated intermediate, so while it’s not a super quick beginner project, it’s definitely manageable! The video tutorial focuses on assembly, which helps streamline the process once you’ve got all your pieces knitted up.
