Hi Marly. I would like to ask your advice please. I am going to crochet your Oliver and Olivia blanket and would like to know if it would work OK using cotton yarn, or do I need to use a yarn that is more ‘squishy’ (wool, acrylic etc)?
    Many thanks for your help.

Hi Cherie-So glad to hear that you are going to try out the Oliver and Olivia blanket. It is very special to me! I would suggest staying away from cotton. The reason for that is if it is a baby gift it will be likely be washed often. Cotton items tend to stretch over time especially when they get wet.

If you are really set on cotton you could try a swatch, soak it, let it dry and then hang it with some weight (a few cloths pins or something like that) to see how much the swatch will stretch. Then you need to multiply that but the whole blanket to see the difference. A blanket is going to be much heaver with cotton and will do a bit of stretching.

Can’t wait to see your finished piece! Please be sure to add it to Ravelry so I can see your work! Happy stitching.
