About Jim Cox:

Jim Cox (a.k.a. James Cox) has been knitting and designing men’s knitwear for more than three decades. Cox is the inspiration and creative force behind James Cox Knits, the sophisticated brand of knitwear patterns and kits featuring stylish designs to be worn by both men and women, or as Cox says: “style based on classic ideas interpreted in contemporary terms.” His latest efforts have resulted in the launch of the James Cox Collection a partnership with yarn resources, starting with Skacel Collection and 20 original sweaters.

The designs are for all seasons and include a bomber jacket, polo shirt, T-shirt, as well as warm and cozy winter sweaters. The James Cox Collection will be available exclusively at local yarn shops. View a 3-page Makers profile on James Cox in the current Holiday issue of Vogue Knitting for an in-depth interview.

For Cox, a successful advertising and marketing executive with an illustrious and award-winning career, knitting is in the genes. Outnumbered by a mother and three sisters who knit for fun in his home state of Kansas, Cox picked up his first knitting needles more than 35 years ago to see what it was that so captivated the women in his family. His eye for men’s knitwear designs and pattern creation flourished along with his career as an ad agency art director.

While working on the team that launched Apple’s Mac computer and creating television commercials that are now part of the Smithsonian Institutions’ permanent collection, Jim also designed and knit sweaters. Knitting provided balance to his hectic life until one day, the pastime produced an epiphany. “This occurred during a vacation to Paris several years ago,” Cox recounts. “While shopping at a men’s boutique filled with designer clothing, the store owner complimented me on the sweater I was wearing. When I explained that I had designed and made it myself, he handed me his business card and said: ‘When you’re ready to launch your line, please call me.’” Cox walked out with the realization that as a fashion designer and marketing consultant, he was well poised to create his own branded knitwear company…and would do just that.

With his own instincts backed by market research to determine what men and women want in knitted garments, Jim has decided to present knitting patterns and kits – opting to sell ideas rather than clothes. James Cox Knits knitting kits and patterns are currently available online at www.jamescoxknits.com along with insights shared by Cox via his blog. The James Cox Knits social community is growing on Facebook at JamesCoxKnits.
