Knit Fair Isle Hat:

The Knit Fair Isle Hat from Yarnspirations starts you off by casting on with the long tail method. Not sure how to work the long tail cast on? Check out my photo tutorial to learn how to start your project.

Working from the bottom you will start with the ribbing of your hat. It is important to have event tension as you work this section to have even ribbing. Looking for some tips on getting the perfect ribbing? Check out my video tutorial on perfect ribbing, with tips and tricks.

Work up this hat, the cowl, or both and have a great set for this cold weather season. What you learn in this video will also pertain to the cowl pattern that goes with this set.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to change from a smaller set of needles to a larger one in the middle of your project
  • How to do a make one
  • Reading a Fair Isle Chart
  • Tips for managing your floats
  • Transitioning to DPNs
  • k2tog (knit two together)
  • How to finish off your hat

Pro Tips:

**When making a hat, I take the circumference of the hat and multiply it by three to make sure my tail is at least that long when using the long tail cast on method.

**Use stitch markers as you are casting on to keep track of the number of stitches you have done. Groups of 10 are very manageable but it can be any grouping that you will remember. I suggest making sure that this is a different color than what you will use at the start of your round.

**You will NOT cut your yarn as you switch colors in each row, you will float it behind the other color that you are working.
