Free Crochet Pattern Abstractly Chic Shawl Week 2

Materials
Yarn RED HEART® Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™: 3 balls of #5693 Poolside A, 1 ball each of #5254 Sunset B and #5311 Lace C. [Art. R170 100% Merino Wool available 3.5 oz (100 g), 186 yd (170 m) balls]
Hook H/8 (5mm) or size to obtain gauge.

Measurements
GAUGE: 5 v-sts = 4.5″ (11.5 cm); 9 rows = 4.25” (11 cm) in V-st stitch pattern. 16 sts= 4” (10 cm); 17 rows = 4” (10 cm) in cable stitch pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge. <note this is a blocked gauge>
Project measures 62” [157.5 cm] in wingspan, 21” [53.5 cm] in height.

Special Stitches
Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog): [Insert hook in next indicated stitch and pull up a loop] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

CABLE SECTION
With A, turn 90 degrees, work along the straightedge side of the shawl over the row ends, sc 90 sts evenly.
Row 1: Ch 25, turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across to last ch, sc2tog over last ch and first sc on edge (joins cable section to right section), sl st in next sc on edge (counts as 1 turning ch). Turn.
Row 2: *Sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * across to end. Turn – 24 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp**, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * across ending at **, sc in next sc, sc2tog over last sc and next sc on edge, sl st to next sc on edge. Turn.
Row 4: *Sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * across to end. Turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sc, sc in ch-1 sp, ch 2, sk 2 sc, sc in ch-1 sp**, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * across ending at **, sc in next sc, sc2tog over last sc and next sc on edge, sl st to next sc on edge. Turn.
Row 6: Sc in first 3 sc, *ch 2, sk ch-2 sp, sc in next 6 sc; repeat from * across to last 5 sts, ch 2, sk ch-2 sp, sc in last 3 sc. Turn.
Row 7: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sk 1 sc, 2 sc in ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk 1 sc**, sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * across ending at **, sc in next sc, sc2tog over last sc and next sc on edge, sl st to next sc on edge. Turn.
Row 8: Rep Row 4 of cable section
Row 9-10: Rep Rows 3-4 of cable section
Rows 11-82: Rep Rows 3-10 of cable section
Rows 83-89: Rep Rows 3-9 of cable section
Row 90: Sc in each sc and ch-1 sp across.
–> Please make note that we will add the actual slip stitch cables to this section in the 4th week. It is one of our final steps. But after this week you will have all the prep work completed for this part.
