Today is my day for the Wedding Blanket CAL that I am hosting on my blog. This blanket is a collaboration between the designers of the Red Heart Joy Creators group. It is an awesome way for us all to work together and make a really beautiful and unique heirloom crochet blanket. Get the FREE crochet afghan square that I designed below.

Wedding Blanket CAL:
Ally, our fearless Joy Creators leader, got married in May and we wanted to do something very special for her. I got the Joy Creators together and we each made a square to put together to make a wedding blanket for Ally and her husband.
Making a blanket as a wedding present is one of my favorite things. Work it up yourself or with a group of friends that all know the bride and groom. This is really something that they can keep forever and think of you every time they use it.
How the CAL Works:
Unlike other CALs (crochet-alongs) this one takes a trip around multiple designers blogs. We are almost at the end of the CAL but you can start whenever you want.
On the origional blog post you will find a list of the designers that are participating in the CAL. Just click on their link and you will be taken to the post of their square.
Once you finish all of the squares you can put them together in any order that you like. Then head back to the blog to get the border pattern.
My Crochet Afghan Square:
This square is pulled from my Tournament of Stitches Crochet Shawl pattern from this year. I loved the stitch pattern so much I wanted to work it up in the three colors that we used for the blanket.
Using three balls of Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™ you can work up this block to add to your next sampler blanket.
Cross Stitch Herringbone Pattern:
- 1 ball Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™ VIP (main color (MC))
- 1 ball Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™ Linen (Color B)
- 1 ball Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™ Suede (Color C)
- Size I crochet hook (or size to get gauge)
- Tapestry Needle
Your finished square should be 12″ x 12″ including the border.
