Frequently Asked Questions

What yarn and hook do I need for the swatch in the video?

So here’s the thing… for the swatch in the video, you’ll want to grab some RED HEART® With Love® yarn and a Size I/9 (5.5mm) crochet hook. Don’t forget your stitch markers and a bent tip yarn needle!

How do I do that dc3tog stitch?

Honestly… the dc3tog is a bit of a cluster stitch. You’ll yarn over, insert your hook, pull up a loop, yarn over, and draw through 2 loops. You do that three times, and then yarn over and draw through all four loops on your hook. It creates a nice little textured V shape!

Can I change colors with this pattern?

Yes! It’s super easy to change colors. Just use your new color on the last yarn over and draw through 2 of the last double crochet of the row before you want to switch. There’s even a video linked in the post if you want to see it in action!

I want to make a baby blanket… how many chains do I start with?

Oh, that’s a great question! For a baby blanket using this ripple pattern, you’ll want to chain in multiples of 16, plus 4. That should give you a nice size for a little one!

What’s the difference between this and the full Radiating Ripple Throw pattern?

Well, this pattern is just a shortened version used for practicing the stitch in the video. The full Radiating Ripple Throw is a free pattern available over on RedHeart.com, so you can make a whole cozy blanket!
