National Crochet Month IG Challenge 2019

Can you believe that we are on our way to starting the month of March, which means, NATIONAL CROCHET MONTH!!! What better month of the year. This might trump Christmas, okay maybe that was a little too far to take it! This year I am teaming up again with my friends Pia (Stitches n Scraps) and Marie (Underground Crafter) for the Hooked on Yarn Instagram Challenge. We would love to have you join us!

What is National Crochet Month?

National Crochet Month, March, has been acknowledged for the past 18 years. The CGOA (Crochet Guild of America) has led events to celebrate March as National Crochet Month. The goal is to promote the art of crochet and engage enthusiasts and master crocheters alike.

CGOA is the only national organization that promotes the education, art, and heritage of crochet while setting the standard for skill and quality. To encourage all crocheters, new and accomplished, to share their love of the craft they dedicated March as a month to bring to light crochet.

What is an Instagram Challenge?

As with most challenges an Instagram challenge is a way for you to participate together with other crocheters, through Instagram. By using the same hashtag you will be able to see all of the photos of everyone participating. This year’s hashtag is #HookedOnYarn2019.

Just incase you haven’t heard of Instagram yet, Instagram is a FREE photo and video sharing app. Through this app you can upload photos or videos to share with ‘followers’. This is a great way to show off the projects that you have been working on, or other things in your life.

How do I participate in the Hooked on Yarn Instagram Challenge?

Each day during the month of March there is a new prompt for the day. Marie, Pia and myself will all be posting a photo that goes along with the prompt for the day. We would love if you would join us and post your photos as well.

While you should always tag your photo with #HookedOnYarn2019 there is also a hashtag for each individual day. To tag your photo for the day you will add “day1” to the end. For example day 1 (March 1st) would have the tag #HookedOnYarn2019Day1. On day 2 (March 2nd) you would then use the tag #HookedOnYarn2019Day2. This will continue for the full month of March.

Marie, Pia and myself would love if you would follow our pages on Instagram. You can watch what we are posting each day too! You can find us at @UCrafter@TheMarlyBird, and @StitchesnScraps.

Don’t hesitate to join us. There is no right or wrong way to answer each prompt. We can’t wait to see how you photograph your answers for the day.

What are the Daily Prompts?

We already have the list for the whole month of what we will be posting photos of. You can start thinking about what you will show for each of the days too.

Why should I Join the Challenge?

You may not use Instagram often or you may be on there everyday. It really doesn’t matter your love or skill of Instagram or even crochet. If you enjoy making with your hands, and enjoy crocheting then we would love to have you join us this year.

Let’s all do our part to spread the word about crochet and the difference it has made in our life. Join us each day to celebrate this special craft through our Instagram challenge.
