Super Simple Lucky Stripes Shawl

The Free Crochet Pattern Super Simple Lucky Stripes Shawl uses two different colorways of the same yarn and simple crochet stitches to make an eye catching piece. This shawl or wrap is made with the amazingly soft and ultra colorful Colorscape yarn by Red Heart Yarns (see link below), this project can be a larger scarf, a wrap, a poncho or a shawl! The versatility is amazing. It is time to make something simple and unique for your accessory trunk.

There are times when I like to just let a yarn speak to me. I let it tell me what it wants to be; that is exactly what happened with this design. I knew that if I used my Colorscape yarn by Red Heart yarn in two different colorways and stripe them I could get a really great looking piece. Because I recently made a crochet shawl/cowl, the Super Simple Shawl, and a knit scarf/cowl, the Super Simple Rib and Lace Scarf and Cowl, I thought it would be fun to make something a little bit larger. So, the idea to make an asymmetrical shawl with stair step sides and fringe came to my head and I went for it!
The resulting accessory is the Super Simple Lucky Stripes Shawl. Little did I know at the time of making it that it could also be a scarf, or poncho, or wrap, or a shawl! Such a versatile piece! When I was finished with the piece I knew I had the perfect buttons to use and lucky me (no pun intended), they were the right size to fit into the ch-2 portion of the piece. What does that mean? NO BUTTON HOLES to make 🙂
The great thing about this shawl is you do not have to use the same yarn as I did to get this really cool look. If you have a couple balls of a long color changing yarn in your stash that you can combine to make this shawl then do it! I know that it would be a beautiful shawl in Unforgettable yarn by Red Heart Yarns.  Anyway, you can customize this pattern for any yarn you want to use, just do a gauge swatch, use the stitch multiple I provide with the pattern and make the shawl work for you. You can make one in no time. Are you ready to make your own Super Simple Lucky Stripes Shawl?

Repeat rows 3-6, changing colors every two rows as indicated, 7 (11) times more. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all tails that are not part of the fringe.
Cut 12″ lengths of yarn and bundle them up in sets of 3. Then add one set at to the end of all rows 2 and 4 as fringe (be sure to incorporate the tail that was left behind in that area) around the last dc.
Buttons
With RS facing, sew buttons along the jagged edge of the shawl. Be sure to space them out so that the ch-2 spaces on the other side of the shawl are able to be the button holes. I placed mine on the last 4 rows of the shawl along the jagged edge, but you could easily add them in a different spot for a completely different look.
