Back to School Knitting and Crochet Projects
Although we may have good intentions to make something for ourselves I know I tend to make more for others. If I am going to make something for someone else I might as well make it for my kids who will appreciate it. Red Heart has put together a collection of EIGHT sweater patterns that are perfect to send your kids to school in this year. Sorry for those of you with boys but this collection has only girl sweaters.
Within the look book you will find three yarns used. Red Heart Soft and With Love can be found in the look book as well as a brand NEW yarn, Amore. Amore is a worsted weight yarn (#4) that comes in thirteen colors and is 100% polyester. It is super soft and you will enjoy making a sweater out of it.
Some of the sweaters in this collection are designed for adults while others are designed for children. Be sure you check each pattern to know which size you should select before getting started.

Marly Bird Patterns Great for Back to School
This pattern is a wonderful quick knit for all body types. And it has POCKETS! Work it up in worsted weight premium acrylic yarn. The sample was made with Red Heart Soft yarn but I also love this yarn for the MMMDI Knit Cardigan. Yes, it is shown on a mom but put it on a teenager and they will LOVE IT!
One of my favorite sweaters made for the Chic Sheep by Marly Bird yarn line. Sadly, the yarn has been discontinued but the lovely free knitting patterns are still available for download. Swish yarn by WeCrochet/KnitPicks would be a GREAT substitute yarn. Use the color blocking to your advantage and knit with your favorite colors!
This was one of Marly’s first crochet cardigans and it is sure to be a favorite. Beautiful crochet stitches are used for this lightweight cardigan that is made in one piece. The pattern is written to be size inclusive and has crochet stitch diagrams to help with shaping of the neckline and the sleeves. Amimono is the Japanese word for knitting and purling. This yarn would be a great yarn to use since the sample yarn has been discontinued.
Shoulder Hug Capelet is a GREAT back to school accessory. Sometimes you just need that little something over your shoulder to keep you warm in a air conditioned room. This piece is size inclusive and an fun and easy knit project. Yarn for this is readily available in big box stores or you can order it online at Yarnspirations.com
The generous fit on this comfy knit sweater with a hoodie, makes it ideal for layering-in optimal warmth. Worked up in Red Heart Chic Sheep, sadly this yarn has been discontinued but Swish by WeCrochet/KnitPicks is a great substitute. Make one today in any shade that speaks to you, and stitch to achieve the beautiful double moss design that completes this project. Grab a mug of hot chocolate and you’re ready to snuggle on cold, winter days.
