Plus size patterns are important to me. Garden Party Crochet Sweater is written for size small to 3XL. With the simple shaping of the cardigan sweater it will flatter most sizes. Head over the to the Ravelry pattern page to see the 40+ projects that have already been made from this pattern.

Gauge is important:

As in all of the other garments that I make, I highly suggest making a hanging gauge swatch before you get started. This is important to see how gravity will alter the size of your cardigan after wearing it. Starting with a swatch will also save you the headache of making the wrong size before you even start. To make a hanging gauge swatch I start by making a swatch of the stitch pattern that is at least 6 inches square. Then I hang the swatch to a hanger or cloths line and add additional cloths pins to the bottom to simulate gravity. Take a before and after measurement of your swatch to see what happens to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What yarn is called for in the Garden Party Crochet Sweater pattern?

So here’s the thing… the pattern calls for Roslyn by Bijou Basin Ranch, which is a 90% cotton, 10% cashmere blend. It’s a fingering weight yarn, and you’ll need about 4 to 7 skeins depending on the size you make.

Is this pattern really easy? I’m having trouble understanding it.

Honestly… I designed this pattern to be easy, but sometimes crochet instructions can be tricky, can’t they? The pattern includes written and charted instructions, plus a schematic, so hopefully one of those ways of learning will click for you! There are also over 40 projects already made from this pattern on Ravelry, maybe seeing those will help!

The yarn in the pattern isn’t available anymore… what weight should I substitute?

Yes! The yarn used in the pattern is a fingering weight yarn. You can find more info about the original yarn on Ravelry, which should help you find a good substitute with similar properties.

I’m having trouble with the pattern after a certain row. Can you help?

Oh dear… sometimes that happens! If you’re stuck after a specific row, double-checking the schematic and charted instructions might help clear things up. Or, maybe seeing other finished projects on Ravelry could give you some ideas!

How do I make sure my sweater doesn’t end up too big?

Great question! It’s super important to make a hanging gauge swatch for this pattern. Hang your swatch with a few clothespins on the bottom to simulate gravity, and measure it before and after to see how much it stretches. This will help you get the right size before you even start crocheting!

Just purchased & downloaded the Garden Party Sweater pattern which is labeled as easy. Unfortunately, it must be written in ‘easy’ Chinese, because I can’t understand It at all I’m surprised and a little disappointed because I love the pattern and hoped to crochet it for my daughter. Although not very experienced, I’m usually able to discern Marly’s instructions/patterns.
Can anyone help me?? Thank you!

The yarn called for in this pattern seems to not be available any longer. What is the yarn weight to be able to substitute?
