Beginner Crochet Scarf

The Crochet Marled Slanted Shell Super Scarf pattern is available for free from Yarnspirations. It’s a pattern that’s easy enough for newer crocheters, especially because you can follow along with my video!

The yarn is Caron Marble Cakes. It’s available exclusively at Michaels! The worsted-weight yarn comes in handy cakes, so it’s ultra easy to crochet from. The marble cakes have multiple colors twisted together. You hold and work with two strands together for the fabulous marled effect. This technique softens the self-striping effect due to the colors changing at different times.

You’ll also need a size US K 10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook. You need a larger size hook because of the double-strand technique. If you don’t have a tassel maker, a piece of cardboard works just as well. And of course, you need a yarn needle to weave in ends.

Frequently Asked Questions

What yarn do I need for this scarf?

So here’s the thing… you’ll want to use Caron Marble Cakes yarn for this project! It’s a worsted-weight yarn that comes in handy cakes and is available exclusively at Michaels. You’ll be working with two strands together for that lovely marled look.

Can a beginner really make this scarf?

Yes! Honestly, this pattern is super beginner-friendly. It’s nice and thick because we’re holding two strands of yarn together, and it works up really quickly. Plus, there’s a video tutorial to help you along!

What size crochet hook is best for this pattern?

You’ll need a larger hook for this project… a size US K 10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook is recommended. Because we’re using two strands of yarn at once, a bigger hook helps make sure your stitches stay nice and manageable.

Do I need any special tools besides yarn and a hook?

Well, you’ll need a crochet hook and your yarn, of course! It’s also helpful to have a tassel maker, or you can just use a piece of cardboard, and definitely a yarn needle for weaving in those ends when you’re all done.
