Learn to Crochet the Lacy Isosceles Shawl:
The crochet Lacy Isosceles Shawl is a FREE pattern from Red Heart Yarns and designed by Lisa Gentry (last I knew, she was the world’s fastest crocheter). Another beautiful NEW pattern using the NEW Super Saver Ombre yarn from Red Heart. This pattern is made with only ONE ball of Super Saver Ombre yarn. This crochet pattern uses a lacy stitch with increases and decreases. If this is something that you haven’t tried before, don’t worry, I’m here to help. I’ve recorded a video tutorial to help you every step of the way. Grab your yarn and learn something new with me.
Red Heart has just launched a NEW Super Saver yarn. Super Saver is Red Heart’s biggest-selling yarn, and they are stepping it up a notch with this new Ombre yarn. Many people have been loving the other Cake Yarns that are out on the market, but they are not gradient yarns like this. Red Heart made the Ombre Super Saver Yarn in a generous ball size, so you can make beautiful projects like this Lacy Isosceles Shawl with just ONE ball!
About Super Saver Ombre:
Super Saver Ombre yarn is a tonal yarn that gradually shifts from one color to another. Unlike the popular cakes on the market, this yarn does not abruptly stop and change colors. The colors in the ball are all variations of the same color. Throughout the ball, the colors will go from light to dark and back again. Depending on the look you want, you can choose to start your project at any of the colors. Red Heart offers 10 colors in the Ombre yarn, giving you a lot of choices.
About the Lacy Isosceles Shawl:
One of the things that I love doing is showing you how to make the project so that you have success and love what you make. For this project, you’ll need to pick out the color that you love for the new Ombre yarn. After you have your supplies, you can watch my two-part tutorial video, where I show you all the steps to complete the shawl.
Part one of the video series shows you how to start the shawl and how to do increases. Part two will show you how to decrease and finish your shawl. You can view the two videos below or on my YouTube Channel, where you can also find other tutorials on projects and how-to videos to help you with all of your knitting and crochet projects.
One of the interesting things about this shawl is that it’s not worked like most shawls. Typically, you would start a triangle shawl at the point, working to the long end, or along the bottom, working to the point. For this shawl, you start at the tip of the wing, increasing until you get to the center and then decreasing down the other side.
Along with having a video tutorial to follow along with Red Heart, this pattern has made it very helpful by including both the written instructions and charts. In the videos, I’ll show you how to read crochet charts so you won’t get lost. I love it when a pattern has both versions, as it is a great check-and-balance system to make sure you are doing what the designer intended.
I hope that you will join me in making this beautiful shawl in the amazing new Red Heart Super Saver Ombre yarn.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really make this shawl with just one ball of yarn?
Yes! Honestly, that’s one of the best parts about this project. The Red Heart Super Saver Ombre yarn comes in a generous size, and this specific pattern is designed to be made with just one ball. So convenient, right?!
How is this shawl different from other triangle shawls I might have crocheted?
So here’s the thing… most triangle shawls start at the point and get wider, or start along the bottom edge and work up. This one is a bit different… you actually start at the tip of the wing and increase until the center, then decrease down the other side. It’s a fun way to make a beautiful shape!
I’m not great at reading crochet charts… can I still make this shawl?
Absolutely! Red Heart included both written instructions and charts, which is fantastic. Plus, I’ve made a video tutorial to walk you through every single step. We’ll even go over how to read the charts together, so you won’t get lost at all.
What yarn do you recommend for this shawl?
Well, this pattern was designed specifically with the new Red Heart Super Saver Ombre yarn in mind! It’s a lovely tonal yarn that changes color gradually, giving you a beautiful gradient effect. It’s perfect for projects where you want that smooth color transition, and it comes in a big enough ball for this shawl!
Is this pattern difficult to make?
This pattern is listed as advanced beginner, so if you’ve done some crochet before, you can totally tackle this! The video tutorial is there to help with any tricky parts, like the increases and decreases, and it’s worked up using a lacy stitch. Just grab your hook and yarn, and let’s make something beautiful together!
