The first challenge focuses on One Ball Projects, where you’ll be inspired to create something beautiful with just one skein (or ball) of yarn. Whether you choose to follow a pattern or design something entirely new, this challenge celebrates the creativity and ingenuity of the crafting community.

Why One Ball Projects Are Perfect for Crafters

Most knitters and crocheters have a dragon’s hoard of yarn! No joke, I know my own stash is paramount to a hoard and I definitely protect it like a dragon would 🙂

But with all that yarn, we have to think of projects to make using it. The problem is that we don’t always have sweater quantities of yarn to use. We might only have that one ball of spun gold and we need the perfect one ball project for that perfect ball of yarn.

One ball projects are an excellent way to:

  • Use up single skeins of yarn from your stash.
  • Explore new techniques without committing to a large project.
  • Create portable, travel-friendly projects that fit perfectly in your Erin.Lane Small Project Bag.

Depending on the size of the yarn and the hook or needles you use, one ball projects can range from small, quick makes to surprisingly substantial creations. Whether you’re a beginner looking for an easy introduction or an experienced crafter wanting a quick win, one ball projects are ideal.

A partially knitted pink sock takes center stage, accompanied by a matching yarn ball labeled "the sheep," a colorful patterned notebook, and blue knitting needle holders—perfect for those who love to create. Celebrate your craft with the Marly Bird logo proudly displayed on the right. -Marly Bird

Ideas for Leftover Yarns

Even small leftover hanks or skeins of wool can be used for small projects. Create a rectangle for a blanket, weave small pieces for art, or knit a bowl for your kitchen. Combine your skills in Tunisian crochet or traditional crochet to join leftover yarns together.
