Candy Apple Cardigan:
The Candy Apple Cardigan is a flattering and versatile, tie-front sweater. Transitioning easily from season to season with its open lace pattern and wool content. Create a simple knot in the front at the waist leaving the long ends dangling for an effortless, playful look. Or, wrap the ties around your waist and tie in the back for a fitted and elegant style. However you wear it, the lovely fabric created by this lace stitch pattern will be both gorgeous and comfortable. You won’t want to take it off.
When I designed the Candy Apple Cardigan I used my friend Drew Emborsky’s “Gemstones” (90% merino wool, 10% nylon) yarn. Gemstones yarn is no longer in circulation but a great alternative is Knit Picks’ Hawthorne Sport Multi Yarn. This yarn is also a sport weight yarn but is composed of 80% Superwash Fine Highland Wool, 20% Polyamide (Nylon), which is very close to the original yarn.
In the pattern you will find a schematic along with charts for the stitch pattern. As you work on the pattern you will have the choice of reading the text or working from the chart. Offered in six sizes you will be able to find the right fit.
Gauge is important:
As in all of the other garments that I make, I highly suggest making a hanging gauge swatch before you get started. This is important to see how gravity will alter the size of your cardigan after wearing it. Starting with a swatch will also save you the headache of making the wrong size before you even start. To make a hanging gauge swatch I start by making a swatch of the stitch pattern that is at least 6 inches square. Then I hang the swatch to a hanger or cloths line and add additional cloths pins to the bottom to simulate gravity. Take a before and after measurement of your swatch to see what happens to it.
