Whether or not you are new to crochet or an old timer sometimes there are terms that are thrown around that make my sit back and think, “What did they just say?”. Let’s talk about common crochet terms that are floating around and how to speak the secret language of crochet. I gladly take on the role of you crochet translator.
Contemporary Home Knits is a new book by Jody Long that is filled with 21 textured and elegant knit homewear patterns. This is a great book for anyone who wants to give their house a contemporary look by making small home knits projects.
Marly Bird™ Kids Craft Camp 2018 is a fun event where kids and caregivers can connect over Crafting and YouTube! That’s right, you all get to enjoy working on a fun kids craft while I teach you how to do it on YouTube Live. On this post you will find the themes for each week and a list of materials you will need to follow-along with the live video for the week.
Did you know that in recent studies it has been determined that Generation Z can’t live without YouTube? Seriously, 95% of them watch it on a daily basis (sounds like me and my relationship with yarn). My kids are 16, 14 and 12 and I know first hand how much they LOVE YouTube. When I asked them about this Marly Bird™ Kids Craft Camp idea they thought it was perfect. Jojo (age 12), “It’s like you’re trying to make crafting cool for kids by putting it on YouTube. I think that is a good idea, Mom. Can I be on it too?” LOL, he is always trying to get on camera.
There are some items that require the use of an item that is not suitable for children (ex: a hot glue gun) for those projects we are asking that the adult is the one to work with that item and follow the safety instructions that come with the item. Use your common sense, if there is something that you don’t think is safe for a kid to use then that is a chance for you to step in and be the adult super hero ☺ .
The kids craft camp is for kids of preschool age to 6th grade, but the age suitability of the craft is ultimately up to the parent/caregiver. Again, use your common sense and it you think a project is too much for your child maybe choose one of the other projects suggested in that weeks blog post.

Every year, when Father’s Day nears, you probably scramble to find the perfect gift for that special man. If your dad is anything like mine, he’s not one for frilly gifts or cheesy cards. He much prefers something that he can actually use. That’s why I’ve gathered this list of more than ten perfect knit and crochet gift ideas for Dad! These patterns are all easy to follow. They’ll definitely come in handy for the dad who spends time in the office or loves to be outdoors.
Walking into someone’s home can tell you a lot about that person. You can see their style and what they like from the first room that you enter. A home can tell you what that person holds dear to their heart through pictures and decorations. As yarn lovers we can make our own crochet decorations to show our love for our craft as well.
Thank you to everyone who participated this year in the 2018 Knit A-long. This year we made our first pair of knit socks together. It was a big undertaking but you really stepped up and made some beautiful pairs of knit socks. Rather than just let the end of the KAL pass us by I wanted to pull out some of the finished socks and show them off.
