Absolute Beginner Crochet Throw Video Tutorial with Marly Bird

We’ve all started our fiber journey for one reason or another, and when we start, we are all beginners. There’s nothing wrong with that. We all have to start somewhere. Just as we learned to walk and talk as young kids, we have the same thing going on when learning a new craft. One of the important things to me is giving beginner crocheters as much help as possible when they first start. I want to ensure that people succeed with their crochet projects and keep falling ever more in love with the yarn industry. In my video tutorial today, I’ll demonstrate how to crochet the Absolute Beginner Crochet Throw – a FREE crochet throw pattern from Red Heart.

Come learn along with me. I promise it’ll be easy!

Starting your Beginner Crochet Throw:

Don’t be scared. Although it is a larger crochet project, it’s not complicated. The finished piece looks way more complex than it really is. Only you and I will know how easy it was, and it’s our little secret.

Shhh…if you don’t tell, I won’t!

This entire blanket is made up of double crochet stitches. Crochet patterns with simple stitches can be truly meditative, giving you something repetitive and soothing to help relax your mind. A simple crochet pattern like this proves that you can take easy crochet stitches that you already know and create something that looks much more complex.

You may feel a little tense when you first start to crochet but try to relax. You can’t hold the yarn too tight as it needs to flow through your fingers. If you feel yourself gripping the crochet hook or your yarn tightly, try to notice, breathe, and relax. Sometimes you’ll find the tension is in your shoulders, so check your whole body for tightness, and breathe to relax. After all, if your loops are too tight, the hook can’t get through, and then you’ll end up getting frustrated.

You can do this!

Once you get started with this new crochet video tutorial, you’ll impress everyone you know!

Don’t forget you could even get a head start on crochet holiday or birthday gifts right now.

About The Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Chunky

Super Saver Chunky is a new yarn from Red Heart. It is the same Super Saver yarn you’ve known and loved for years, but now it’s in a Bulky weight #5. It’s still made from 100% acrylic, and this is the perfect yarn to use when gifting to someone else. They won’t have to worry about how to take care of their blanket as this yarn is fully machine washable and can be tumbled dry.

Red Heart Super Saver Chunky

Because it’s a chunky yarn, projects work up quickly, even if you make a blanket. You’ll feel like you’re finished in no time, especially since this blanket is worked in double crochet stitches. Double crochet is one of the taller stitches used in crochet, and it’s very popular with beginners and experienced crocheters alike. Double crochet stitches are the basis of many crochet stitches, so this is an ideal place to begin your crochet journey.

But getting back to yarn, Super Saver Chunky has a palette of 19 different colors, so you can mix and match to find your own perfect crochet color combinations.

Oeko-Tex Certified Red Heart Yarns

Best of all, this yarn product holds the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification. Learn more about our products that are awarded this certification.
