Tunisian Slip Stitch
Just as the name describes this stitch slips the next stitch onto your hook, and that’s it. You can slip TSS-wise or TPS-wise. meaning you can slip the next sts (inserting your hook under the front vertical strand) with your yarn in the back (TSS-wise) or with your yarn in the front (TPS-wise). We will work on slipping both ways, but there are a ton more. The resulting fabric is incredibly woven in look and can be dense if you don’t adjust your hook size. See below for this week’s homework that uses the Tunisian Slip Stitch.
Tunisian Reverse Stitch
This confusingly named stitch is actually quite simple. You will insert your hook in the back vertical strand before yarning over and picking up a stitch. You insert the hook from right to left the same way you insert your hook for TSS, except in the BACK strand instead of the front (for TSS). What happens is it pushes your return pass (that chain) to the front. This can give the look of purl stitches. When combined with TKS (knit stitches) the resulting fabric can be adorable.

Tunisian Wrap Stitch
This handy little stitch makes a cute organized fabric. It is made by yarning over your hook before creating the next 2-3 stitches, then pulling those stitches through the yarn over. You will see it in a pattern as follows: Yarn over, tss in next 2 sts, pull yarn over over prev 2 tss . It seems counter intuitive, so practicing always helps.

Frequently Asked Questions
What did we learn in the first two lessons of the BiCrafty Bootcamp?
So here’s the thing… in lesson one, we got cozy with Tunisian hooks, learned how to keep your Tunisian fabric from curling with a foundation slip stitch, and mastered the Tunisian Simple Stitch. Lesson two built on that, so you’re well on your way!
Can you explain the Tunisian Slip Stitch a bit more?
Honestly… this stitch is super straightforward! You just slip the next stitch onto your hook. You can do it TSS-wise or TPS-wise, which just changes where your yarn is when you insert your hook. It creates a really woven look, and you might need a bigger hook for it.
What’s the deal with the Tunisian Reverse Stitch? It sounds complicated!
Yes! It has a funny name, but it’s quite simple. You insert your hook into the back vertical strand instead of the front, and it makes your return pass pop to the front, giving a purl-like appearance. It looks super cute when you combine it with the Tunisian Knit Stitch!
How do I make the Tunisian Wrap Stitch?
This one’s a little tricky at first, but so worth it! You’ll yarn over your hook before making the next 2-3 stitches, and then pull those stitches through the yarn over. It gives the fabric a neat, organized look.
What size hook do I need for the Kirkton Tunisian Crochet Cowl?
For the cowl, you’ll want a Size L/11 (8.0 mm) Tunisian hook that’s at least 10 inches long. You’ll also need a Size I/9 (5.5 mm) regular crochet hook for the edging.
