2018 Game Day Make-Along

It is the first annual 2018 Game Day Make-Along. This year for the Super Bowl we thought that we would have a little fun and have a mystery make-along. Before the event even started you all blew me away with the number of people that signed up for the event. No matter what team you are rooting for let’s have a great time and make some beautiful pieces!

When is the Game Day Make-Along:

The game day make-along will take place on Sunday February 4, 2018. The first clue will be released at 9am EST and the last clue will be released at 6pm EST. Each hour there will be a new clue released.

All clues will be posted on their own page but you will find that page linked here. Be sure to come back every hour to see the new clue.

How do I participate in the Game Day Make-Along:

To participate in the game day make-along head to the Marly Bird Facebook page and RSVP to the event.

Come back to this blog page ever hour from 9am to 6pm EST to see the latest clue. Post a picture in the group on the correct post for each hour of your progress.

What are we making:

This is a mystery make-along, so we can’t tell you too much just yet. What we can tell you is that there is a knit version and a crochet version so be sure that you are reading the correct clue!

What materials do I need:

You will need 10oz of a worsted weight yarn. I have made my sample in Super Saver Ombre.and With Love Stripes. Brittani-Pearl is making hers in Super Saver Stripes and Katelyn will be making hers in Hopscotch.

You will also need a size J (6mm) crochet hook or a size 10 needle (24″ circular or straight).

Don’t forget your removable stitch markers, tapestry needle and scissors.

What can I win:

Once you have finished your mystery project you post a photo on the Marly Bird group page, on the finished project post, for a chance to win a prize package from Red Heart.

All finished project photos must be submitted by midnight MST on Sunday February 4th. Winner will be announced on Monday February 5th. US and Canadian residents only.

Don’t worry the last clue is at 6pm so you will be able to work on your project throughout the game.

We will give away one prize package for every 100 finished projects posted (one entry per person please). That means if 400 people post finished projects by midnight we will give away 4 prize packages. The more people that participate the more chances you have to win. Be sure to share the make-along with friends you think will love this.

OH NO, I work Sundays from 12-5 CST but I can still do the BINGO, right?
NO worries, I have plenty of things to work on. I need to start my February project anyways!
By the way, THANK YOU SO MUCH for always coming up with such fun events!
You always go way above and beyond!

Do I understand this will only be run in your FB group? Creative idea, but Some of us don’t do facebook.

  3. Beth Holt says:

My sister decided I needed to.do this to distract me. My son has in the ICU Burn unit since January 8th, so my knitting goes and sits beside me. Lori felt I needed a new project and bought me ALL the supplies. This is my first KAL, thank you for the excitement.

Sorry we didn’t see this message. I hope that you were able to find the clues. Be sure to join the MB FB group so that if you have questions the next time we do this you will get answered right away!

  4. Cheryl says:

I really enjoyed this as I am always game for a mystery. I don’t like to crochet so I did the knit version. I was not able to start early so I am still working on mine but I have seen several of the pictures posted. My only complaint is that the knitted version is no where neat as pretty as the crocheted version. I wish a few more knit stitches has been incorporated into the pattern. Regardless, it is still fun and I enjoy the experience. Thank you for doing it.

    • MarlyBird135 says:

Thanks for the feedback Cheryl. We learned a LOT from this first mystery make along and we will take that into consideration for the next one. We tried to keep it simple enough to give knitters a chance to finish it in time. We are thinking that the next time we will need to give knitters some more time so that we can add some additional stitches into the pattern!

  5. Susan Nichols says:

I’m crocheting and got a very late start, so I am far from finished. Where are the 4 P.M., 5 P.M., and the 6 P.M. clues?

  6. Yvonne Mayfield says:

I total missed this! I’m so sad. This would have been so much fun to be a part of. Where can I see the finish product?

    • MarlyBird135 says:

You can head over to the Marly Bird FB group to see the progress everyone made! We will have an ad free PDF pattern in Ravelry shortly! Feel free to start yours at any time! 🙂
