Rea Heart Hopscotch comes in 7 colors and is a medium weight 100% acrylic yarn. The yarn is super soft and great to work with. This shawl is made in a crescent shape, not the traditional triangle shape. Try out this new yarn with this great new shawl pattern.
We will use circular needles to hold all of the stitches and increase using the yarn over method. I will walk you through this increase if it is new to you and teach you how to make each part of the shawl. If you are using stitch markers and want to make your own I have a great video to show you how. Don’t miss the two part video series to walk you through each step of the shawl.

Frequently Asked Questions
What yarn do I need for this shawl?
So here’s the thing… the pattern calls for Red Heart Hopscotch yarn, and it’s a really lovely medium weight acrylic that’s super soft! You’ll need two balls of the Kickball colorway.
Is this a traditional triangle shawl?
Honestly… no! This one is actually made in a lovely crescent shape, which is a little different from the usual triangle shawls. It’s perfect for draping or even wearing in a chilly, air-conditioned room.
What kind of needles should I use?
Yes! You’ll need circular knitting needles for this project. The pattern suggests a 5mm (US 8) size that’s 36 inches long, just to make sure you have enough room for all those stitches as they grow.
I’m new to knitting, can I still make this?
Oh, absolutely! The pattern is designed to be pretty approachable, and there are video tutorials to help you through it… especially if the yarn over increases are new to you. Give it a try!
What does it mean to knit into a 2-stitch yarn over?
Great question! When you see “knit once into each 2yo and dropping extra wrap” it means you’re going to work into both loops of that yarn over you made, and then you’ll just let the extra wrap fall off. The videos on the page can really help clarify that part!

Hopscotch is the yarn
Done! I didn’t quite understand the last but with 2 yo and how to knit them, but it came too me and I really li je the stretchy bind off . A very nice pattern!
The video doesn’t show the two next rows after doing row 4&5 forty-five times. Very confused as to what k3, yo, k to last 3 sts (knitting once into each 2yo and dropping extra wrap), to, k3.
What / How does what is in brackets mean ????
Can I slip the first stitch of each row to get a chain edge? I’m new to knitting and love trying out free patterns to see how I’ll do at this. Thank you!
