SPECIAL STITCHES

Slip, Slip, Knit (Ssk): Slip 2 stitches, one at a time, as if to knit. Insert left needle into the front of these 2 stitches and knit them together from this position – 1 stitch decreased.

Slip, Slip, Slip, Knit (Sssk): Slip 3 stitches, one at a time, as if to knit. Insert left needle into the front of these 3 stitches and knit them together from this position – 2 stitches decreased.

PATTERN STITCHES 

P1 x K1 Rib

Worked in the round over an even number of sts.

Every Round: * P1, k1; repeat from * around.

Broken Rib (circular)

Worked in the round over an even number of sts.

Round 1: Knit.

Round 2: * P1, k1; repeat from * around.

Repeat the last 2 rounds for Broken Rib (circular).

Broken Rib (flat)

Worked back and forth in rows over an odd number of sts (minimum of 7 sts).

Row 1 (RS): Knit

Row 2 (WS): P2, * k1, p1; repeat from * to last st, p1.

Repeat the last 2 rounds for Broken Rib (flat).

NOTES

  • Both yarns are held together and used as one for the entire piece.
  • Piece is worked from the bottom up, starting in the round, then worked back and forth in rows for remainder of piece

GAME DAY 2026 KNIT MAKE-ALONG PATTERN

Face Opening Edging – I-Cord Casing

With RS facing and beginning at bottom center st of face opening, pick up and k 7 sts across second half of bottom bind-off edge, pick up 3 sts every 4 rows up right side-edge of Face opening to the 11 sts across the top bound-off edge, pick up and knit 11 sts across the bound-off edge, pick up 3 sts every 4 rows down left side-edge of face opening, and 5 more sts across first half of bottom bind-off edge. 

Count: Even number of sts.

Join round and mark first st.

Rounds 1-3: * K1, p1; repeat from * around.

Round 4 (drawstring eyelet round): K1, p1, yo twice, p2tog, * k1, p1; repeat from * to last 3 sts, p2tog, yo twice, p1.

Round 5: K1, p1, k into double-yo dropping second loop off the needle, * p1, k1; repeat from * to last 3 sts, p1, k into double-yo dropping second loop off the needle, p1.

Rounds 6-8: * K1, p1; repeat from * around.

Bind off in pattern leaving long tail for seaming.

I-Cord Drawstring

With dpn’s, cast on 3 sts.

Row 1 (RS): K3, slip all 3 sts to other side of dpn. Do not turn work.

Repeat row 1 until I-Cord Drawstring measures approximately 55” [140 cm], or to desired length.

Cut yarn and thread tail through the 3 live sts. Pull tight.

FINAL FINISHING

Thread I-cord ends through the eyelets.

Fold I-Cord Casing back to WS around the I-Cord, and join the last row of casing to the selvedge row (where you picked-up stitches to knit) with a whip stitch.

Weave in all loose ends.
