Your First Knit Socks in the 2018 Knit A-long

Thank you to everyone who participated this year in the 2018 Knit A-long. This year we made our first pair of knit socks together. It was a big undertaking but you really stepped up and made some beautiful pairs of knit socks. Rather than just let the end of the KAL pass us by I wanted to pull out some of the finished socks and show them off.

2018 Knit-Along:

A knit-along is a community event where we all get together and work on the same project at the same time. This allows us to work together as a group and ask questions and share out inspiration from the pattern.

If you are a slower knitter or can’t start on the start date don’t worry, the pattern will always be available on the Marly Bird website for you to come back to.

My First Socks Knit-along

Our sock KAL was a 6 week event. We started slow learning how to use DPNs without fear and then moved through each section of the sock. If you took my advice and worked each section on both socks each week you had a finished pair of knit socks in six weeks.

Some people moved faster than others and completed more pairs of socks but this wasn’t about how many you could make. It was about learning new skills, becoming confident with using DPNs and about having a great time as a community. I think that we really nailed that!

I am so proud of all of you! If you haven’t started your first pair of knit socks yet be sure to start from week 1 and work along with the video tutorials each week to make your own.

Past KAL:

Every year we have a new knit a-long and we even have a yearly crochet a-long as well. Although we only do one KAL a year you can always go back and work on projects from previous years. To find the other KAL projects that we have worked on you can head to the KAL/CAL section of the blog.

I have just finished my first pair of socks. I really like the tutorial step by step, very easy to follow. That has always been a dream of mine to do a pair of socks. I also like the ideal that we do bought sock at the same time. Thanks Lisa from Ottawa Canada
