Step into Crochet with Rohn Strong

Step into Crochet with Rohn Strong

Step into Crochet with Rohn Strong is a new book and we are just tickled he has returned to Yarn Thing with Marly

Bird to share it!

Rohn Strong is one of the most passionate crafters you’ll find. He’s an author, designer, instructor, and broadcast

personality in the knitting and crochet world. He specializes in crochet, tunisian crochet, hand knitting, and loom knitting.

Start crocheting socks on the right foot. Step into Crochet is the most comprehensive guide to creating crocheted socks. Author Rohn Strong shares 19 patterns for cozy socks, along with a wide variety of techniques, in this must-have reference and pattern book.

The first section of Step into Crochet focuses on construction methods: you’ll learn basic toe-up and cuff-down construction, while being introduced to a variety of heel and toe treatments. Plus, you’ll find out what makes a certain heel/toe combination perfect for socks!

The pattern section includes 19 socks ranging from basic ribbed and simple socks (great for customizing) to more technique-based pieces, focusing on colorwork, lace, cables, and motifs. Whether you’re ready to jump into crocheting socks feet first, or just dipping your toe in to try out a few fun patterns, Step into Crochet is your go-to resource. Purchase Step into Crochet with Marly’s affiliate code!

Keep up with this very busy guy through his website. www.RohnStrong.com, also through other media, like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, plus his Ravelry Designer page and Group.

Rohn has visited the Yarn Thing podcast a few times, because we love him so, the first time was in 2013, again in 2014 , with his book New Methods in Crochet Socks 2015 and then about his Craftsy Class last year.

If you missed getting to hear this live, Marly’s Facebook page has video from her studio (her awesome laugh with Rohn’s voice!) https://www.blogtalkradio.com/yarnthing/2017/07/18/step-into-crochet-with-rohn-strong

I know you all are melting in summer but down under its winter and I’m as done with winter as you are with summer! Great podcast. Good to know Ron’s book is a resource book, not just a pattern book. I’ve had my eye on it but I just may have to invest in a copy. =)

Thanks for this great episode. I love crochet, and appreciated hearing about Rohn’s observations and suggestions regarding the stretch of certain crochet stitches and use of particular yarns for success with crochet sock making, even in the summer! And Rohn, welcome back to the world of designing and all that entails! Do you still enjoy botanical illustration for fun?

I am so very happy to hear about your crochet sock book released this summer! I have been knitting lately, but my first love is crochet. I also have very small feet, and when I wear many purchased socks, the heel extends out of my shoe. I would love to crochet socks that fit and are comfortable! Now, if I could just find great fitting shoes at a reasonable price. I guess you can’t have everything.

I love making socks and summer is a great time to do get them going so I have a full sock drawer for winter! And I totally agree about the quality of yarn: while I love my Patons Kroy and Red Heart as much as the next knitter/crocheted, there is something amazing about wearing Merino or MCN socks. One tip: try to get some that are 20-25% nylon so they are more durable.

This was the year that I finally tried my hand at crocheting socks=)!! Two pairs down…(both with rather inappropriate yarns), but so fun anyway…and I love the look!! I’m so excited that there is a fabulous, new book out on the subject=) I always hear about knitters having their “vanilla sock patterns”…and I want to have my own perfect, go-to vanilla sock (crochet) pattern. I think Rohn Strong may be holding the key=)…Happy Summer!!
