  • Sweater is worked in panels and seamed.  Then the collar, ribbing, and sleeves are crocheted onto the sweater.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

TURKEY TROT 2023 CROCHET SWEATER PATTERN DAY 5

Seaming

Hold Front and Back panels together with RS facing each other.  Using a tapestry needle, whip stitch shoulder seams together. Whipstitch side seams together leaving an 8 (9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 11)” [20.5, 23, 23, 25.5, 25.5, 28, 28]cm opening for the sleeves. Turn the sweater right side out.

Collar Edging

Place a stitch marker at each inner corner on the back and front neckline. This is where the shaping changes direction. For example from the straight part of the neck to the angled section. There are 4 inner corners on the front panel and 4 on the back panels.

Round 1 (RS): Join yarn to back of neck with sc, *sc evenly along neck to marker, sc2tog at marker; repeat from * around, sc evenly across to beginning making sure there is an even number of stitches, do not join, do not turn. Remove stitch markers.

Round 2: *Split sc in next sc, sc in back loop only of next sc: repeat from * around, do not join, do not turn.

Repeat Round 2 twice more, sl st to first sc, fasten off, weave in ends.

Bottom Ribbing

Join yarn to the RS of back at side seam with sc.

Row 1 (RS): *Ch 1, skip 1 st on foundation, sc in next st on foundation; repeat from * across to opposite side seam, turn. – 35 (40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65) ch-1 sps.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip ch-1 sp, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn.

Repeat Row 2 of Bottom Ribbing 7 more times. Fasten off weave in ends.

Repeat on the front panel.

Note: You can replace a split sc for the sc on Row 2 if you wish.  To do a split sc on a WS of the stitch (a split sc in rows), you insert your hook under the top 2 loops and third loop (this is a tiny bump directly under your top 2 loops), yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on your hook. In single crochets the third loop goes from laying horizontal under the top 2 loops to vertical to lay next to the leg of the stitch (closest to the hook). To make a split sc, you have to go under this loop as well (or think of it as you have to move this strand from the leg it is laying against to the opposite leg), it is not easy to see.  See video tutorial for more assistance.

You are so close! One day left!
