11” [28 cm] leg length (including cuff  but not including heel)

GAUGE

13 sc and 16 sc rounds = 4” [10 cm]

6 colors of Worsted Weight Yarn / CYC Size 4

US H [5 mm] or size to obtain gauge

Tapestry Needle, Stitch markers (removable), Scissors

  • Cut yarn at color change
  • Change to new color in last slip stitch of row
  • Stocking Cuff, Leg, Foot, and Toe are worked in turned rounds
  • Heel is worked in rows

PATTERN

Clue 4

Heel

1ST HALF

With Color A

With RS facing, leaving a long tail to use for sewing later, join yarn at marker on the 12th stitch with a slip stitch, turn. 

Do not remove markers from 12th and 38th stitch. 

Note: there is no ch1 in this section at the end of row.

Row 1 (WS): Sc in next 24 sc, turn — 24 sc. 

Note: Remaining stitches are the instep stitches and will remain umworked until the first row of the foot.

Row 2 (RS): Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 23 sc.

Row 3 (WS): Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 22 sc. 

Row 4 (RS):  Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 21 sc.

Row 5 (WS): Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 20 sc. 

Row 6 (RS):  Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 19 sc.

Row 7 (WS): Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 18 sc. 

Row 8 (RS):  Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 17 sc.

Row 9 (WS): Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 16 sc. 

Row 10 (RS):  Sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 15 sc.

CENTER ROW

Row 1 (WS): Sc in each sc to end of row, turn — 15 sc.

Note: In the 2nd half of the heel, use a stitch marker in the first sc of the row and move up each row to help know where to work the increase on the next row.

2ND HALF

Row 11 (RS): 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 14 sc, turn — 16 sc. 

Row 12 (WS): 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 15 sc, turn — 17 sc. 

Row 13 (RS): 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 16 sc, turn — 18 sc.  

Row 14 (WS): 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 17 sc, turn — 19 sc.

Row 15 (RS): 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 18 sc, turn — 20 sc. 

Row 16 (WS): 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 19 sc, turn — 21 sc. 

Row 17 (RS): 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 20 sc, turn — 22 sc. 

Row 18 (WS): 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 21 sc, turn — 23 sc. 

Row 19 (RS): 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 22 sc. Fasten off  — 24 sc. 

Fold heel in half, whip stitch together the 1st half to the 2nd half.
