Working with Super Bulky Yarn

Anytime that you work with super bulky weight yarn, your projects move along at a quick pace. There are a lot of terrific super bulky yarn options out there. In fact, I chose one for this project. It’s Red Heart Evermore, a #6 super bulky yarn.

Red Heart Evermore is a roving style yarn. Even super bulky yarn comes in a variety of styles. Roving-style yarn looks like wool roving. This particular yarn is 20% wool and 80% acrylic. Therefore, you do have to hand wash this yarn. It’s worth it, though, because it’s such a pleasure to work with. Plus it makes a terrifically warm accessory.

An Interesting Cast On

This fast knit hat free pattern is suitable for advanced beginners. The only thing that might be a little bit trickier than usual is the cast on. Doin’t worry, though; the free video tutorial for the pattern shows you how to cast on. I just wanted to do something a little bit different for the cast on. Therefore, I went with an altered picot cast on. It looks a lot like a tubular cast on. However, it’s not as challenging to learn as a typical tubular cast on. You can also use a long-tail cast on if you prefer.

An Easy Knit Hat Pattern

If you’re looking to try something new but still work quickly then this hat offers that opportunity. You can start off practicing this interesting cast on. Then you can go into the body of the work with ease. If you can knit and purl, then you can make this hat. It’s meditative or mindless, depending on your approach. In other words, it’s easy, and you can put your mind where you want to with this fast knit hat free pattern.

Simple Seaming to Finish it Up

This hat is knit flat. In other words, you don’t have to know how to to knit in the round to knit this hat. Instead, you work it row by row. Then, at the end, you follow the instructions to seam it up. It’s fairly straightforward and easy to do. And, just like the rest of the hat, the seaming takes very little time.

A Hat For Everyone In the Family

This hat pattern is available in five sizes. You can make it for toddlers as well as older children. Then there are three bigger sizes for teens and adults. Check your gauge to make sure that you’re crafting the hat in the correct size. Since the yarn is so bulky, being even a little bit off with your knitting gauge can make a big difference.
