About the Fur Top Crochet Christmas Stocking Pattern:
This is a two part video. Be sure to watch part 1 before moving on to part 2. Part 1 will show you the materials that you need for the pattern and how to get started.
NOTE: At about 3:45 in the first video I started to say the wrong numbers! So sorry, it was the last video on a very long day. The first chain 2 counts as a stitch, then I did 8 sts…making it 9. Then on round 2 I did 2 stitches in each stitch making it 18. then I did increases again on round 3 and you will have 24 (as I mentioned).
We will be working this stocking from the toe up. This is a great way to make your stocking as you can make it as long or short as you would like. I have added stitch markers to my list of materials to help me keep better track of the last stitch of my round, to make sure I don’t miss that one when coming back around.
Part 2 of the videos will show you how to work for the foot, heal, leg and cuff of the stocking. Be sure to watch the second video to see some of my tips for working with Red Heart fur yarn.
Don’t be afraid to play around with colors for this pattern. Change the colors so that you know which stocking belongs to each person or make them all the same and put their initials on it with surface crochet for a different look.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really make this stocking myself?
Yes! This pattern is a fun one and totally doable. The video tutorial breaks it down into two parts, so you can follow along step-by-step. It’s a great project to get you in the holiday spirit!
I saw in the video that you made a little mistake… should I worry about that?
Honestly… don’t stress about it! I made a tiny slip-up at about 3:45 in the first video, but I corrected it right after. The first chain 2 counts as a stitch, making it 9 stitches, then round 2 has 18 stitches, and round 3 has 24. It all works out beautifully in the end!
What yarn do you suggest for this stocking?
So here’s the thing… the fur yarn I used in the sample is actually discontinued. But don’t worry! I found a super good substitute called Fable Fur from Red Heart. You’ll also need Red Heart Super Saver in two colors for the main part of the stocking.
How long will it take to make one stocking?
That’s a great question! The page mentions that the yarn quantities are enough for two stockings. To make a single stocking, you’ll need about 200 yards for the leg and foot, 50 yards for the heel and toe, and a little bit for the cuff. It’s a wonderfully quick gift!
Can I customize the colors on my stocking?
Oh, absolutely! Don’t be afraid to play around with colors for this pattern. You can change them up to make each stocking unique for family members, or use one color and add initials with surface crochet for a really special touch.
