What is the Turkey Trot with Marly Bird?

Turkey Trot 2019 Mystery Make Along with Marly Bird is a FREE and super fun online event held over the US Thanksgiving weekend for BOTH knitters and crocheters.

A make along is when a group of knitters and crochets get together to work on the same project at the same time. In this case we will have one knit pattern and one crochet pattern. Both pieces are the same object but different style. Whether you choose to make one of the patterns or both we would love you to join us for the fun!

What Are We Making

IT IS A MYSTERY! I can’t tell you!!! Okay, so I know what we are making as I designed it but I can’t tell you any more than it is a wearable. This event is a MYSTERY make along so you won’t know what the final project will look like until you make all of the clues.

I can tell you there are two sizes. S-L and XL-3XL so you will have to select which one is best for you. And if you are one of those people who just can’t handle mysteries…honestly, by Sunday you will be able to tell what it is 😉

Both–Other Yarn Options:

Because I know that many of us seldom use the yarn called for in a pattern I want to give you some other options BUT there is a catch.

We are having some testers making this pattern in some other yarns. However, because these yarns not not constructed the same way as the sample yarn (less lofty and furry) and some are a heavy worsted vs a bulky the yardage needed might vary. I say all that so you can plan accordingly whether it is to go ahead and buy extra so you have enough and take back any you don’t use, or if you chance it then possibly need to buy more. (clear as mud, right?)

Here are the yarns others are trying out:

  • Red Heart Dreamy or Dreamy Stripes
  • Red Heart Roll With It Tweed
  • Red Heart Roll With It Melange
  • Red Heart Gemstones
  • Red Heart With Love Chunky
  • Caron Chunky Cupcake
  • Red Heart Colorscapes

Sharing is Caring

Sharing is caring in everything that we do in this industry. That is how designers get noticed and it helps with making revenue for these free events through the ads on our blogs.

As we work through this event we ask that you use our hashtag to share and make a great gallery of what you are working on. #MarlyBirdTurkeyTrot2019

Feel free to download the image here and add it as your temporary FB profile picture! That is a great way to share with others what you are working on for the weekend and get them over to the site as well.

Queue up the patterns on Ravelry

If you are part of Ravelry, please take a minute and add your project there as well.

PRIZES

Oh yes, there will be prizes!!! After the final clue is released (12/1/19) you will then have a week to complete your project. Any finished project image that is posted on the special thread in the Marly’s Minions Facebook group will be entered for a chance to win.

Criteria for chance to win:

  • You must have a finished project by 11:59pm ET December 8th
  • Photo of your finished project must be posted in the Marly’s Minions group in the photo thread (if you post your photo anywhere else it will not be an entry to win)

ETA: we have so many people participating in this event that I have to put a max on the number of prizes we have to give away. We will give prizes up to 1000 entries or 20 total prizes. Thanks for understanding.

All the winners will be randomly selected and the winners will be announced on Tuesday Dec. 10th on the Marly’s Minions FB Group.

  2. Cindy J. Hall says:

Marley , Thank you so much for all your help today along with others in the group. Your video helped me finally get passed the first row in Clue 2. I already know its a poncho and I am so excited to be making something for myself. I will wear this all holiday season. I picked out the Elderberry colors. Thank you again.

    • Marly Bird says:

Thanks for the message. I am so happy that you made a poncho with us! Hope you are getting a lot of use from it!

    • Marly Bird says:

Sorry about that Barbara. It is too hard to have to pull images from many different locations to pick the winner. By having them in the FB group everyone else can see what people are working on and it makes it easier for me and my team to pull winners. I hope you understand.

  3. Shari Harrison says:

Hi Marly I am so frustrated trying to find the patters. Is there somewhere I can look at them without the ads popping up. I realize the ads are part of supporting the webpage, but they knock me off and keep coming back. I just want to see what the patterns are and where I can get them without fighting with the ads.
