🧶 Why You’ll Love This Knit Hat Pattern
✔️ Perfect for Beginners
With no tricky decreases and minimal shaping, this hat is approachable and fun—even if it’s your first time knitting a hat. Great project for the beginner knitter
✔️ Made with One Ball of Yarn
Who doesn’t love a one-skein wonder? This hat uses just one ball of Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™ yarn, making it an ideal stash-busting knit. Because this yarn has been discontinued, we suggest trying out KnitPicks Swish yarn.
✔️ Chevron Texture Without the Fuss
The zigzag pattern is created with simple knits and purls, giving you that polished look without needing any fancy techniques. So fun to make and easy to remember.
🧵 Materials Needed
- Yarn: 1 ball of Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™ (or look at Swish Worsted by Knit Picks)

🧢 How to Knit the Suite Hat
🧷 Step 1: Cast On with Confidence
We recommend using the long-tail cast-on for a neat, stretchy edge. You can check out how to do it in this tutorial:

🧷 Step 2: Work the Body of the Hat
This hat is knit in the round, using a simple chevron-style stitch pattern of knits and purls. There’s no crown shaping—just bind off and cinch it up at the top!
🧷 Step 3: Add a Pom-Pom (Optional but Adorable!)
A yarn pom-pom gives it a fun finish! Use leftover yarn or mix colors for a playful pop.

One Ball Knit Hat

As with most of the knit patterns I design, I started with the long tail cast on method. Learning how to start this way is easy with the two tutorials I put together. Why do I love this method so much? I believe it gives me a sturdy start and it also lets me see the ridges better on my first row.
Looking at the finished hat you might think that it is quite complicated. Really, the chevron pattern that you see is all done by changing the placement of your knits and purls. With no shaping in this hat it really is a beginner knit hat. Working in the round does make it a little more advanced than true beginner but follow along in the tutorial below and learn how to join in the round with my tips and tricks.

Throughout this pattern you will need to keep track of your rounds so that you know when to change the placement of stitches. Want an easier way to keep track of your rows while you work? Make one of these DIY knit row counts. They are perfect to make sure that you count each row that you work and you won’t loose your counter because it is attached to your project.
Adding pom poms to the finished hat is a great way to pull it all together. For this pattern I made my own yarn pom poms to make sure that they would be small enough for the hat. You can make your own pom poms using my video tutorial.
