About the 2019 Bernat Stitchalong:

For our stitch along we will be making a beautiful Knit Festive Textures Afghan. Since this is a stitch along there will be both a knit and crochet version available for you. Both the knit and crochet versions are very similar and you will enjoy either pattern that you decide to go with. I will be teaching and hosting the knit blanket only.

This blanket is knit with Bernat Blanket yarn in very modern colors. But you can choose any color combination you wish to make yours match your home.

This is a 6 week knit-along hosted by Marly Bird. The crochet-along is hosted by Mikey at The Crochet Crowd.

Looking for all of the nitty gritty details of the stitch along? Check out the announcement post that I did two weeks ago for all of the details, dates, materials and more! Don’t forget to check out the GIVEAWAY details too!

Week 3 of the Bernat Blanket Stitchalong

Do I need to do a gauge swatch:

Typically a gauge swatch isn’t as important when working a blanket pattern since it doesn’t need to fit a person when it is finished. I still recommend that you complete a swatch before starting so that you know you are using the right needle.

Doing a gauge swatch will let you know that you are going to have enough yarn and that your blanket will come out the same size as the pattern says.

Each week you will find a new gauge measurement. Why is this? Because each section uses a different stitch pattern the gauge slightly changes with each section. Always make sure that your gauge is correct so that you don’t run out of yarn and that your blanket stays the same size throughout.

Week Three Supplies:

For this section of the Bernat Stitchalong you will need color B and C. Along with these two colors you will need a good pair of scissors, tape measure, stitch marker and the FREE pattern.

Don’t forget to also download the pattern for week three.

3 Things You Will Learn:

  1. Vertical stripes with slip stitches
  2. Knit front back and front increase (double increase)
  3. Slip one purl wise decrease (double decrease)

Now that we have added texture to our blanket with the bobble stitches in week 2 we will be working some vertical stripes in week 3. Although this may look like it will be a hard section you will get this look by using slip stitches.

So far in the pattern we have learned how to increase and decrease the most common way. This week I will show you a new way to increase and decrease that will add or eliminate two stitches at a time.

Working slip stitches will give you this great vertical stripes section of the blanket. Follow along with me in my video tutorial to see how to accomplish this section.

Share Your Progress:

By all means please share you work with us! We would love to see your progress. Use the hashtag #MarlyBird or #HandMadeWithJoann when you share your photos! Share them in the Marly’s Minions Facebook group or the Yarnspiration Stitch Along Facebook group.

Share on Social Media #MarlyBird or #HandMadeWithJoann

Make a Cowl:

You might have noticed that the sample that I am making in the video is smaller than the blanket that you are working on. Rather than make the whole blanket in the video I took a smaller section and made a cowl from the pattern.

If you want to follow along with the smaller sample and make a cowl with me follow along here for my stitch counts.

What I’m Wearing:

Uptown Chic Shawl FREE Knit Shawl pattern from Marly Bird

Love the shawl that I am wearing in the video? You can make one for yourself! In this video I am wearing my brand new Uptown Chic Shawl. This stunning shawl can be wrapped around your shoulders or worn like a bandana around your neck. Either way it is an amazing accessory.

The Uptown Chic Shawl was one version of the Tournament of Stitches from 2018. You can check out all of the version of the Tournament of Stitches and make your own with the free pattern on my website.

    Hi

I was travelling when clue 3 was released and missed the written pattern to download and print. I find references to clue 3 in several places, but when I click on the “download pattern” it goes to week 4. I CAN find the YouTube video, but would really like to have the written pattern.

    Please help!
