Shawl Section 4

Note: You are working this section lengthwise. When the TOS was happening many people had a hard time understanding how to do this so here is my explanation with basic instruction.

You cast on 8 to the left hand needle, so now you have all the stitches from the shawl AND 8 new stitches.

Now, you are on the RS…knit across 7 of the 8 stitches, THEN, K2tog…the last stitch of the 8, and the next stitch on the needle from the shawl. LEAVE ALL THE REST OF THE SHAWL STITCHES ALONE.

Turn your work and work the WS back.

Turn your work, work down the 7 stitches in pattern to 1 stitch before the shawl stitches, then K2tog the last stitch of the 8 and the next shawl stitch. I hope that helps you understand what you will be doing in this section.

Leaf edging Worked lengthways over 8 sts.

Note: increases are worked purlwise, you can do a Pfb (purl front and back–see special stitches) for the increase. Also, every rs row join to the last st to the shawl.

Cast on 8 sts to left hand needle.

Set-up row 1 (RS): K7, k2tog (1 st from cast on, 1 st from shawl)–344 sts left on shawl

Set-up row 2 (WS): Knit

Set-up row 3 (RS): K7, k2tog–343 sts left on shawl

Set-up row 4 (WS): Knit

Note: I made adjustments to the instructions below so that the last stitch of every RS row is joined to a stitch from the shawl.

Row 1 (RS): K5, yo, k1, yo, k1 k2tog. (10 sts)–the last k2tog joins one stitch of the new cast on stitches to one stitch on the shawl, decreasing number of stitches on shawl by 1.

Row 2: P6, inc, k3. (11 sts)

Row 3: K4, p1, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, k2tog. (13 sts)–the last k2tog joins one stitch of the new cast on stitches to one stitch on the shawl, decreasing number of stitches on shawl by 1.

Row 4: P8, inc, k4. (14 sts)

Row 5: K4, p2, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, k2tog. (16 sts)–the last k2tog joins one stitch of the new cast on stitches to one stitch on the shawl, decreasing number of stitches on shawl by 1.

Row 6: P10, inc, k5. (17 sts)

Row 7: K4, p3, k4, yo, k1, yo, k4, k2tog. (19 sts)–the last k2tog joins one stitch of the new cast on stitches to one stitch on the shawl, decreasing number of stitches on shawl by 1.

Row 8: P12, inc, k6. (20 sts)

Row 9: K4, p4, yb, skpo, k7, k2tog, k2tog. (18 sts)–the last k2tog joins one stitch of the new cast on stitches to one stitch on the shawl, decreasing number of stitches on shawl by 1.

Row 10: P10, inc, k7. (19 sts)

Row 11: K4, p5, yb, skpo, k5, k2tog, k2tog. (17 sts)–the last k2tog joins one stitch of the new cast on stitches to one stitch on the shawl, decreasing number of stitches on shawl by 1.

Row 12: P8, inc, k2, p1, k5. (18 sts)

Row 13: K4, p1, k1, p4, yb, skpo, k3, k2tog, k2tog. (16 sts)–the last k2tog joins one stitch of the new cast on stitches to one stitch on the shawl, decreasing number of stitches on shawl by 1.

Row 14: P6, inc, k3, p1, k5. (17 sts)

Row 15: K4, p1, k1, p5, yb, skpo, k1, k2tog, k2tog. (15 sts)–the last k2tog joins one stitch of the new cast on stitches to one stitch on the shawl, decreasing number of stitches on shawl by 1.

Row 16: P4, inc, k4, p1, k5. (16 sts)

Row 17: K4, p1, k1, p6, yb, sk2po, k2tog. (14 sts)–the last k2tog joins one stitch of the new cast on stitches to one stitch on the shawl, decreasing number of stitches on shawl by 1.

Row 18: P2tog, cast off 5 sts purlwise using p2tog as first of these sts, k1, p1, k5. (8 sts)

Repeat rows 1-18 until all stitches are used on shawl.

Bind off remaining stitches.

Weave in ends.

Wash and Block.
