About the Lafayette Chic Crochet Shawl:

Beginner, intermediate and advanced crocheters will find something to love with this beautiful pattern. Worked up in my Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™ yarn your hands will have a great time working up this pattern.

This shawl pattern is rated for intermediate but with this crochet tutorial and Marly’s help, you will be able to make this wonderful shawl for the spring or winter. It is not too lacy but it does use a crochet lace stitch.

A great one row repeat pattern allows beginners to have confidence when they master that row, and advanced crocheters can use this as an easy TV watching pattern.

This pattern uses beginner basic skills like the chain stitch, and double crochet, and also more advanced stitches like the dc3tog (double crochet three together), and the 2dc-cl (two double crochet cluster) that are used to make up a unique crochet shell stitch.

Notice this is a basic chevron pattern that is created by working stitches into peaks and valleys with increases and decreased throughout the pattern. Because of the one row repeat throughout this pattern you are able to adjust the length to what fits you. By working a few more rows, or a few less rows you can get the perfect length for you. Just remember that changing the length will change the amount of yarn that you need for the pattern.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Lafayette Chic Shawl really beginner-friendly?

Honestly, yes! While it’s rated for intermediate crocheters, this pattern uses a one-row repeat and beginner stitches like the chain stitch and double crochet… Marly’s tutorial makes it super achievable even if you’re just starting out!

What yarn do you recommend for this shawl?

So here’s the thing… Marly designed this shawl specifically with her own yarn line, Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™, in mind! You’ll need about 5 balls of the ‘VIP’ color, but you could totally mix and match colors if you wanted to make a color-blocked version.

Can I adjust the size of this shawl?

Yes! Because it has a one-row repeat and is built on increases and decreases, you can totally adjust the length… Just work a few more rows or a few less to get the perfect fit for you. Just remember that changing the length will change how much yarn you need!

What special stitches are used in this pattern?

Well, besides the basic chain and double crochet stitches, you’ll also use a few more advanced ones like the dc3tog (double crochet three together) and the 2dc-cl (two double crochet cluster)… These are what create that really neat crochet shell stitch!

Do I need a special crochet hook for this pattern?

No special hook needed… just a standard 5mm (US H-8) crochet hook will do the trick! You’ll also need a yarn needle for weaving in ends, but other than that, it’s pretty straightforward.
