Blue Diamond Lace Scarf Errata

Hello my fellow knitters,

As you know, I designed a beautiful scarf for my friend, Carol Sulcoski’s book, Lace Yarn Studio. The scarf was named the Blue Diamond Lace Scarf and I am sorry to say that there is a little bit of errata for the pattern.

The mistake is when you transition from the first lace bit to the second lace. If you do as written you will not have the right number of stitches. The pattern should read:

Transition Chart (multiple of 12 sts plus 1, minimum 25 sts)

 

Row 1 (RS): K2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, ssk, * yo, k3, s2psso, k3, yo, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from * to last 5 sts, yo, k3, ssk.

Row 2 and all even-numbered rows: Purl.

Row 3: K2tog, k2, yo, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, * ssk, yo, k2, s2psso, k2, yo, k2tog, yo, k1, yo; rep from * to last 6 sts, ssk, yo, k2, ssk.

Row 5: K2tog, k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k3, * yo, ssk, yo, k1, s2psso, k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k3; rep from * to last 5 sts, yo, ssk, yo, k1, ssk.

Row 7: [K2tog, yo] twice, k5, * yo, ssk, yo, s2psso, yo, k2tog, yo, k5; rep from * to last 4 sts, [yo, ssk] twice.

Row 9: K1, * k2tog, yo, k7, yo, ssk, k1; rep from * to end.

Row 10: Purl.

I’m am also including a new chart to help those who are more visual (like me)

This is a new design of mine that is fun to make, great to learn new things, and totally on trend.

THE PROJECT

A Poncho! Something that is rather simple, intriguing, and popular. The project for this CAL is a rather basic poncho but it packs a lot of punch. There are many learning opportunities for me to teach you while you make the Marly Bird Popular Poncho.

THE DATE

The official start date is September 20, 2016 – October 11, 2016. There will be one video released each week along with the pattern instructions for that section. You will find a full schedule at the end of this post with links as they are available.

THE COMMUNITY

There is a dedicated Facebook group for this CAL that is monitored by me and several of the WONDERFUL sample crocheters who tested this pattern for me. We are all there to help you with this project. Please join us!

THE PATTERN

During the CAL, each section of the pattern will be released at the same time as the corresponding video release. This will help everybody who wants to participate in the crochet-along (CAL) stay at the same pace and subsequently make it easier for me to help!

The Complete Surprise by Cully Swansen proves that the classics taught to us years ago are still pertinent to us on the Yarn Thing podcast with Marly Bird.cully-swansen-2

Cully Swansen is very modest about how he learned to knit. He is the grandson of master knitter Elizabeth Zimmermann and son of knitting designer Meg Swansen, so we may assume they sat him down and taught him. He recalls like the rest of us, the stories Elizabeth shared with us of learning to knit a few stitches at a time. He says he learned while attending a Waldorf school when they lived in Los Angeles for a year. The focus is on the arts, and he worked in languages, arts and knitting. He knit an entire doll! Much later, about ten years ago, he came back to it. He had been to college and had a career, but when he broke his leg and realized this was the perfect time to pick it up again and work on it while he was healing.  [Read more…]
