Free Crochet Pattern Abstractly Chic Shawl Week 3

Materials

Yarn RED HEART® Chic Sheep by Marly Bird™: 3 balls of #5693 Poolside A, 1 ball each of #5254 Sunset B and #5311 Lace C. [Art. R170 100% Merino Wool available 3.5 oz (100 g), 186 yd (170 m) balls]
Hook H/8 (5mm) or size to obtain gauge.

Measurements

GAUGE: 5 v-sts = 4.5″ (11.5 cm); 9 rows = 4.25” (11 cm) in V-st stitch pattern.  16 sts= 4” (10 cm); 17 rows = 4” (10 cm) in cable stitch pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge. <note this is a blocked gauge>
Project measures 62” [157.5 cm] in wingspan, 21” [53.5 cm] in height.

Abbreviations

ch= chain;
dc= double crochet
dc2tog= double crochet two together [see special stitches]
ea= each
sk= skip
sp= space
st(s)=stitch(es);
V-st = see special stitches
* to * = work directions from * to * the number of times specified or to a specific stitch.

Special Stitches

V-st: (dc, ch 1, dc) in stitch or space indicated
Double Crochet 2 Together (dc2tog): *Yarn over hook, insert hook in next indicated stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * once more, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

LEFT SECTION

With A, turn 90 degrees, work along the side of the shawl over the row ends, sc 88 sts evenly. Turn.
Row 1: Ch 4 (counts as dc, and ch 1-sp of first V-st), dc in first sc, *skip 2 sc, V-st in next sc; repeat from * across to end. Turn – 30 V-sts.
Row 2: Ch 3, *V-st in space between next 2 V-sts; repeat from * to last 2 V-sts, dc in space between last 2 V-sts, ch 1, dc2tog over same sp and 3rd ch of tch. Turn – 29 V-sts (1 decrease V-st).
Row 3: Ch 3, *V-st in space between next 2 V-sts; repeat from * to tch, V-st in 3rd ch of tch. Turn – 29 V-sts
Rows 4-6: Repeat Rows 2-3 once, Repeat Row 2 once more. Fasten off A – 27 V-sts.
Rows 7-12: Join B, Rep Row 3 once, Repeat Rows 2-3 twice, Repeat Row 2 once more, Fasten off B – 24 V-sts.
Rows 13-18: Join C, Rep Row 3 once, Repeat Rows 2-3 twice, Repeat Row 2 once more, Fasten off C – 21 V-sts.
Rows 19-27: Join A, Rep Row 3 once, Repeat Rows 2-3 4 times, Fasten off A – 17 V-sts.
Rows 28-33: Join C, Repeat Rows 2-3 3 times. Fasten off C – 14 V-sts.
Rows 34-42: Join B, Repeat Rows 2-3 4 times, Repeat Row 2 once more, Fasten off B – 9 V-sts.
Rows 43-59: Join A, Rep Row 3 once, Repeat Rows 2-3 8 times. Fasten off A – 1 V-st.

First Finishing 

Weave in all ends. I suggest using the bury in method taught to us on YouTube by Anne Berk aka Annetarsia.
