The person in the image is wearing a beautifully crafted cable-knit sweater. The sweater features intricate cable designs that add a lovely texture to the garment. It has a round neckline and short sleeves, making it a stylish choice for layering or wearing in transitional weather. The rich, warm color of the sweater suggests it could be a versatile piece in someone's wardrobe, suitable for both casual and dressier occasions. The knitter has chosen a yarn that gives the cables a well-defined and raised appearance, highlighting the skill and design detail that went into the sweater's creation.

NOTES

  • This sweater is sized using narrower or wider Cable Panel patterns. Be sure to follow the Cable Panel pattern for your desired size.
  • Cable Panel and Seed Stitch patterns are given for flat as well as circular knitting. The body of the sweater is worked circularly, while the top portion (past the armholes), as well as gauge swatches, are worked flat.

This is an image featuring a richly textured, rust-red cable knit sweater laid out flat on a white surface. The sweater is presented with one sleeve gently folded in, showcasing the intricate cable patterns that run throughout the garment. Above the sweater, the word "SAZERAC" is written in bold, white font with a slight orange glow, followed by "cable sweater" in a smaller white font. To the right, there's a hint of floral decoration with dried hydrangea flowers in muted green and pink tones, adding a soft, autumnal feel to the composition. The photograph captures the cozy texture and detail of the knitwear, emphasizing the craft and design of the Sazerac Cable Sweater. - Marly Bird

SEPARATE FOR ARMHOLES

Remove beginning of round marker, slip first 2 (2, 3, 3, 3) sts (to be worked later with Back), and cut yarn.

The front and back sleeves of the Sazerac are work flat in rows. Be sure to use the cable panel chart for the size you’re making to maintain the established pattern for the sweater or read the worked flat written instructions for this part of the sweater. If you have not already downloaded the individual charts, the download link can be found in the pattern stitches section above. There is a chart for each individual size.

❣️TIP: While knitting the front and back sleeves, it’s recommended to maintain or place markers between the cable panels, similar to what you did for the body, to assist in maintaining the correct pattern sequence.

FINISHING

Graft right Shoulder sts together using Kitchener Stitch as follows (also see Video Tutorials):

Note: if you want to Mattress stitch the shoulder together that is totally okay, just bind off all the stitches and proceed to seam together.

For Kitchener Stitch: Hold both needles or holders together in your left hand with RS facing out, and join yarn in first stitch on the back needle.

Cut a long tail from the working yarn (about 4 times the width of the fabric to be joined), and thread tail into yarn needle.

Step 1: Insert yarn needle purlwise into first st on front needle and pull it through, leaving st on the knitting needle.

Step 2: Insert yarn needle knitwise into first st on the back needle and pull it through, leaving st on the knitting needle.

Step 3: Insert yarn needle knitwise into first st on front needle and pull it through, then drop this st off knitting needle.

Step 4: Insert yarn needle purlwise into first st on front needle and pull it through, leaving st on the knitting needle.

Step 5: Insert yarn needle purlwise into first st on the back needle and pull it through, then drop this st off knitting needle.

Step 6: Insert yarn needle knitwise into first st on the back needle and pull it through, leaving st on the knitting needle.

Repeat steps 3-6 only, pausing to pull sts taut and neaten the seam after every couple of inches. Be sure to always pause after a step 6 so as to not lose your place.

When 2 sts remain, work step 3, then step 5, then fasten off.

Graft left Shoulder the same way.

Sew bottom Sleeve seams (underarm seams) together using Mattress stitch.

Weave in all loose ends.
