Adding a Pom Pom to your hat

After finishing your latest crochet or knit hat your burning question might be “How do I add a pom pom to my hat?” and I have the answer for you. Actually I have two answers for you. In this video tutorial I will show you two ways to add a removable pom pom using a button to your hat.

It’s easy, and fun to add a pom pom to your finished hat. This addition gives your hat a chic look that is on trend right now. The most common way to add a pom pom to your hat is to tie it directly into the hat. Downfall to that approach is that you aren’t able to remove the pom pom should you need to wash the hat.

A removable pom pom is great for when you need to wash your hat or for changing up the look. Removing your pom pom means that you will need to sew it pack into place unless you make it removable. Learn two methods of how I attach my pom poms using buttons.

Work either of the methods that I show you in this video tutorial for both knit and crochet hats.

NOTE: Although this tutorial is using faux fur pom poms you can definitely add a yarn pom pom to a hat in the same way!

Pom Pom with Elastic Attached

If your pom pom comes with elastic, or something else, attached to it half of your work is already done. You will need a button for the inside of your hat along with some string to secure the button.

Watch the video for exactly how I add a pom pom to my hat to make it easy to remove.

Pom Pom with no Attachment

If your pom pom doesn’t come with elastic at the bottom don’t worry. We can add our own tie by using yarn, cotton or thread.

Follow along with the video tutorial below for some tips and tricks of getting a secure connection for your pom pom.
