Rylan Crochet Cable Cowl or Scarf

Designed as a project for week 10 of the BiCrafty Bootcamp with Marly Bird: Crochet Lessons for Knitters, this cowl is made up of front post and back post stitches to create a crochet cable fabric that is easy to remember and fun to make.

Finished Measurements

Sample Cowl is 10” [25.5 cm] wide by 30” [76 cm] long or to desired length

Gauge 

18 sts by 9 rows in stitch pattern= 4” [10 cm] by 4”[10 cm]; use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

WeCrochet Swish DK (100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool, 123 yds, 1.75 oz/ 50 g, CYCA# 3 light) #24956 Dove Heather = 4 balls for cowl, 7-8 balls for scarf

SPECIAL STITCHES 

  • Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc): Yarn over,  insert hook from back to front to back around the post of the stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, [yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook] twice.
  • Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): Yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front around the post of the stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, [yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook] twice
  • Front Post Treble Crochet (fptr): Yarn over twice, insert hook from front to back to front around the post of the stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, [yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook] three times
  • Stacked Double Crochet (stacked dc): (Do not ch 1 prior to making the first sc) Sc in first stitch, insert hook in between two legs of the base, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook. >>watch video here<<

FINISHING

With RS together, seam the first and last row together using a whipstitch. Join yarn to edge, ch 1, sc evenly across edge, sl st to first sc.  Repeat on opposite side.

Fasten off, weave in ends.
