JOANN Stitchalong Bernat Knit Blanket Clue 5

This is the time in a CAL/KAL that I start to get a little sad. We are on the home stretch of our project and I don’t want it to be over! I know that I am having a really great time and I hope you are too. Week 5 of our stitchalong is our final week of a new stitch pattern. We are are working some eyelets, which is a basic lace pattern! Come learn more about the week 5 section below.

About the 2019 Bernat Stitchalong:

For our stitch along we will be making a beautiful Knit Festive Textures Afghan. Since this is a stitch along there will be both a knit and crochet version available for you. Both the knit and crochet versions are very similar and you will enjoy either pattern that you decide to go with. I will be teaching and hosting the knit blanket only.

This blanket is knit with Bernat Blanket yarn in very modern colors. But you can choose any color combination you wish to make yours match your home.

This is a 6 week knit-along hosted by Marly Bird. The crochet-along is hosted by Mikey at The Crochet Crowd.

Looking for all of the nitty gritty details of the stitch along? Check out the announcement post that I did two weeks ago for all of the details, dates, materials and more! Don’t forget to check out the GIVEAWAY details too!

Do I need to do a gauge swatch:

Typically a gauge swatch isn’t as important when working a blanket pattern since it doesn’t need to fit a person when it is finished. I still recommend that you complete a swatch before starting so that you know you are using the right needle.

Doing a gauge swatch will let you know that you are going to have enough yarn and that your blanket will come out the same size as the pattern says.

Each week you will find a new gauge measurement. Why is this? Because each section uses a different stitch pattern the gauge slightly changes with each section. Always make sure that your gauge is correct so that you don’t run out of yarn and that your blanket stays the same size throughout.

Week Five Stitchalong Supplies:

For this section of the Bernat Stitchalong you will need color A, B, and C. Along with these three colors you will need a good pair of scissors, tape measure, stitch marker, a cable needle (optional) and the FREE pattern.

Don’t forget to also download the pattern for week five.

4 Things You Will Learn:

Taking a look at the stitch pattern for this week, you might notice that it resembles the first week’s stitch pattern. What a great way to finish off the blanket, pulling it all together with a similar start and end.

  1. YO, k2tog simple lace
  2. reading your lace knitting
  3. bind off
  4. weaving in ends

TIP: As you are working through this section, to make sure you have the correct stitch count, be sure that for every yarn over you have a knit to together. If you have one without the other you will either increase or decrease your total stitch count.

Make a Cowl:

You might have noticed that the sample that I am making in the video is smaller than the blanket that you are working on. Rather than make the whole blanket in the video I took a smaller section and made a cowl from the pattern.

If you want to follow along with the smaller sample and make a cowl with me follow along here for my stitch counts.

What I’m Wearing:

Annie's Crochet Skill Builder Shawl CAL with Marly Bird

Did you fall in LOVE with the shawl that I am wearing in the video tutorial? Looking for the pattern so you can make one for yourself? You are in luck! You can make that beautiful shawl in a crochet along with me and Annie’s.

This project is great for beginners looking to learn something new, or experienced crocheters looking for a different way to approach making a shawl. Sign up for the class and get started on your own shawl with me.
