Knit Picks ® City TweedTM Dk Weight [55% merino wool, 25% superfine alpaca, 20% Donegal tweed 50 g/123 yds

2 balls: #25520 Cobalt

Needle

U.S. 7 [4.5 mm] 16” circular needles and set of 5 double pointed needles, or size required for gauge

Notions 

Stitch markers, tapestry needle, pom pom maker (optional)

ABBREVIATIONS

CDD – Center Double Decrease

K – Knit

K2tog – Knit 2 Together

P – Purl

St(s) – Stitches

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE

⭐️ Cable Cast-on: Cast on two sts. * Insert right needle between last two sts on left needle,  knit a st in this space and place it on left needle (1 st increased), repeat from * to desired number of sts.

⭐️ Center Double Decrease:  Slip next 2 stitches knitwise at the same time, knit next stitch, pass slipped stitches over knit stitch (same as S2kp) – 2 stitches decreased.

NOTES

  • Brim is made long to be folded over. You can adjust the pattern to have an unfolded brim by knitting until the brim measures 2 (3)” [5 (7.5) cm].
  • This hat has a LOT of stretch.

EVERY DAY KNIT HAT PATTERN

Folded Hat Brim

With circular needles, cast on 108, (120) sts using the cable cast-on method (see Special Techniques). Join round and mark first st.

Round 1 (RS): * P3, k1; repeat from * around. 

Repeat Round 1 until Brim measures 5 (6)” [12.5 (15) cm].

Round 1 (RS): *K3, p1; repeat from * around. 

Repeat round 1 until body of Hat measures 4 (5)” [10 (12.5) cm] from last round of Brim.

Round 3: *K3, p1, k1, p1, k3, p1; repeat from * around.

Round 4 (decrease): *K3, CDD, k3, p1; repeat from * around — 18 (20) sts decreased. 72 (80) sts remain. 

Round 5: *K7, p1; repeat from * around. 

Round 6 (decrease): *K2, CDD, k2, p1; repeat from * around — 18 (20) sts decreased. 54 (60) sts remain. 

Round 7: *K5, p1; repeat from * around.

FINISHING

Cut yarn, and use tapestry needle to slip each of the remaining sts off the needles as if to knit, then pull tight like a drawstring.

Fasten tail securely to wrong side of Hat. 

Weave in all loose ends. 

Make a pom-pom and sew to top (optional).
