Create Magic with Your Stash: Harmony Hues Knit Hat Pattern
Scrap Yarn into Stranded Knit Hat Goodness
When I finished the Color Kaleidoscope Poncho I had a lot of leftover yarn scraps for my stash. Well, I didn’t want just to put that yarn away as I loved working with those colors and wanted to do MORE fair isle knitting! So, I began to think of things I could design and use the remaining yarn from the poncho.
I thought about making gloves, mittens, a cowl, a colorwork stocking, warm slipper socks, or a hat. I LOVE making hats (check out these hats from the year of hats)
Once I decided I could make a hat, I knew it was to be my first project. And I didn’t have to do a swatch because I had my entire poncho to measure since I used the same knitting needles and yarn for that piece. #winwin!
The first knit pattern I designed was the Kaleidoscope Harmony Knit Hat >> Coming Soon <<. This particular hat knitting pattern used all 9 colors of the poncho and had a color change EVERY SINGLE ROW! Dude, the amount of ends almost got to me. But I gotta say, after all was said and done with the colorwork, I fell in love with that knit hat pattern.
🌟You can get that hat pattern here >> Coming Soon <<
When I finished the Kaleidoscope Harmony Hat I still had enough leftover yarn to make at least 2 or 3 more hats if I wanted…and yes, I wanted! That was when I decided to cast on for the Harmony Hues Knit Hat.
This hat only uses 7 of the original 9 colors, and the hat only uses two charts for the body of the hat so it is a bit more of a fitted beanie than the other stranded knit hat I made.
One thing to note about this hat is, after using the remaining Indigo color on the first hat I made, I did have to add more of what was my color A in my poncho for this hat as I ran out before I got to the crown. But it wasn’t much, only .3 oz. I could have totally used a different color and made it work but I wanted the two colors on the crown to be the same as the corrugated ribbing.
Anyway, that is how this beautiful fall accessory was born from the yarn scraps of the Color Kaleidoscope Poncho.

NOTES
- Instructions are for size S. Changes for sizes M and L are in parentheses. When only one number is given then that number applies to all sizes.
- Read stitches on charts from right to left, and rounds from bottom to top.
- The chart represents a portion of the project, therefore each row of the chart will be worked on repeat until all the stitches of the round are complete.
- When stranding a color beyond 4-6 sts, tuck the float (see Video Tutorials).
- Weave in tails as you go and use them to close the color change join.
- When stitches become too snug around the 16” circular, transfer stitches onto the double pointed needles (dpns).
