Crochet Amigurumi Unicorn with Left and Right Handed Video Tutorials

Want to learn how to Crochet an Amigurumi Unicorn with Marly Bird? This crochet unicorn stuffed animal pattern is free from Yarnspirations. It was originally designed by Nancy Anderson. However, I’ve done a video tutorial for it to supplement her written crochet amigurumi unicorn pattern. The unicorn might seem intimidating at first, especially if you are new to amigurumi. However, with the help of a crochet expert (me!), you will have a finished crochet toy by the end of the day!

Making Your Own Crochet Unicorn:

I am not traditionally an amigurumi person, It’s just not usually my thing. Not that I have anything against amigurumi or crochet stuffed animals. It’s just that we all have our lane, right? And that’s not usually mine. Personally, I love to make crochet blankets and wearables.

However, I am open to trying new things. I loved working with this crochet amigurumi unicorn pattern. And I am ready to reach you how to make these cute unicorns. The yarn called for in the pattern is a weight 1. However, I am working up my sample in a weight 4 so that you can see exactly what I am doing. Learn more about yarn weights here.

Through the tutorial you will learn how to start your amigurumi pattern with an adjustable ring. You will also find a video on how to weave in your ends for the adjustable ring. Along with how to start your pattern you will learn some tips for stuffing your unicorn as well. Be sure that you check your gauge so that there aren’t any holes for the stuffing to come out of.

Grab your hook and yarn and get started with me. You don’t have to use the amigurumi yarn for this pattern. You can use a worsted weight yarn like I did and still get a super cute unicorn.

Amigurumi Yarn:

Red Heart has recently released a brand new yarn, Amigurumi. Amigurumi is a weight 1 acrylic yarn. This is perfect for making amigurumi knit or crochet projects. If you’re going to make the crochet amigurumi unicorn pattern as intended by the designer, it’s smart to use the yarn that they suggest.

For each cake of Amigurumi yarn, you will be able to make the two projects pictured on the front. Each cake comes with four colors that you can pull apart and use as you like. That said, you’re welcome to play around with different yarn options when making your own unicorns. After all, by changing up the yarn (and going up to a larger hook size), you can make your unicorn larger. It’s all up to you.

Crochet Amigurumi Unicorn Video Tutorial:

Here’s the right-handed version of the tutorial for making this unicorn. But what about if you’re left-handed? That’s totally okay. Go to the video itself on YouTube. Then look in the video description underneath the video. There you’ll find the link to the left-handed version of how to make this pattern. Have lots of fun! If you make these, make sure to tag me @themarlybird on Instagram so I can see your work.
